Here in the North, it's reloading season. . .

Howdy Pards,

Shooting season's over here in the north country.  Now, it's time to put in some quality time in the reloading lab.  As you load your favorite SASS calibers, you do it with precision and pride.  You'll show off that fine ammo next season.

All that in mind, how clean and bright is your brass?  How clean the primer pockets?  How well are your cast bullets made?  Did you discard into the re-melt pile any that don't meet your expectations?

All these questions beg answers only if we want to walk to the shooter's line with confidence that our black powder ammo is as good as we can make it.  Let's face it.  We have all the excuses we need without apologizing for our ammo.  Make them the best you can.

You guys in the northland have my sympathy.  Here in the Republic of Texas, it's always cowboy shooting time.  That means we get lots of quality reloading time all year long!  ;D

Define "north country". The lake we live on is freezing over, there's 2" of snow on the ground with a snowfall happening as I write this. In the am it's -10*C (about 12* F).

The beavers and bears have packed it in for the season. Haven't seen a moose across the lake for about 10 days now.
It's going to be a long winter ......

I'm packaging up some Big Lube®LLC rifle & pistol ammo for my pards for Christmas.  They're gettin' a couple boxes of scattergun ammo also.

Here in California it is finally getting cold.  I now have to wear pants instead of shorts.   ;D

Just got back from the range after a work party. Afterwards, I did some off hand plinking with my '86 with bare hands. It was a balmy -2* C with a breeze.
Got to the point where I lost my trigger finger sensitivity. The light wasn't good either, a very dull day. After 20 rds there was no point in further shooting.

Not rubbing it in DD but it is just getting to be shooting time here in central Texas. A little nippy today in the mid 50's and windy as all get out (25 -30 MPH) too rough for off hand shooting so i did a little loading on some shotgun shells with (ug) Pyrodex working out  a good roll crimp.
The Pyrodex was free so I decided to just use it up but following Prof. Marvels information I will clean carefully every day until I am satisfied it it all washed out.
Do you recon a few shots loaded with that heathen stuff would e a good starting point for a good clean out?
A Happy Thanksgiving out there to all you pards

No, Wisconsin ain't Tejas, but we do enjoy/endure our winters. . . ;)  Deer gun season is here now and I'm trying to find some.  I was in Church when these passed my stand. . .

Hey Dick, are those deer in your freezer yet?

This is the first time in many years I didn't get out deer hunting. I reckon this year I'll be eating Slim Jims from Pick N Save.

I know and am trying to talk my wife into moving to either Nevada or Idaho, but she does not want to move to far away from the Grandkids.

No deer yet.  Last day tomorrow.  Kids pulling stakes and heading back to their digs.  I'll get in a couple more hours.  Hope I can stay awake after all that fine Thanksgiving feast. . .

You want to come share with me? I'm having tag sandwiches.

Dick Dastardly

Well Flatbush,

We both got the same number of deer so far.  But, front stuffer season starts tomorrow.  I'll lay one down yet.

Tag soup makes thin eatin'.  Nothing fell to my guns.  Enjoyed the hunting season regardless.  Now, I have to clean my guns cuz I had to shoot a couple of sighters.  Hit the bulls eye but not any deer. . .
