colt in .44 Russian

I picked up a 1909 colt in .44 russian. does any know if this was a BP gun, or can we use smokeless in it!  and no, .44 special brass will not fit in the cylinder. only .44 Russian brass. and yes, it's double action.

Drydock

This is a New Service, is it not?  It will handle smokeless just fine.  The New Service began production in 1898, and I believe all are smokeless warrantied,  though certainly your 1909 model is.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

I remember seeing a Colt SAA marked .44 Russian and .44 Special.  Don't know when that particular pistol was made, but I would guess sometime after 1908.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.
