Soot Lords,

After driving to Lodi Log Cabin and back I got the kids in bed and went straight to my reloading room to load my first shotshells which are BP shotshells at that!

My load is 60 grains of Goex 2f followed by an 11ga overshot card and cushion wad, then 1oz of 7 1/2 shot with a 10ga overshot card glued in with elmers gel glue.

My question is will this load be good for short range knock downs at my local SASS match? (Ohio Valley Vigilantes) I shoot a Cimarron 1878 hammer double with a 20" barrel.

Now as soon as my SPG Big Lube bullets come I'll get them loaded for my 44-40s and be ready for the next match. I shoot Classic Cowboy usually, but I think I'll call this Frontier Classic Cowboy. ;)

I can't wait to take these loads out and test em on some boxes!

Thanks,
DD

Onliest way to find out if they take down the plates is to try!  Patterning the load will tell you if you are blowing a hole in the pattern.  Take a couple of pizza boxes with you next time you go to a match and set them out about the distance of the SG targets and see what the pattern looks like.  Did you mean an over shot card over the powder or did you mean a nitro card?  Usually you would use a 1/8" nitro card there.

My brass load is 58-60gr of FFg or FFFg (because I have a lot more FFFg, works just as well), 11 ga nitro card, red plastic wad, 1 1/8 oz shot, 11 ga over shot card glued with elmers wood glue.  A 10ga overshot card would fit a little tighter, but the glue holds it fine.  Some of the clubs I shoot have some tough shotgun knockdowns, thus the little heavier shot load than some use, and the plastic wad gives me a better pattern than fiber.  The plastic wad is a bit loose in the case, but the nitro card under it seals well.  Have been using this load for about 15 years.

Abilene,

Thanks for the reply, I did mean the 1/8" nitro over the powder card.

Thanks!

I use very much the same load and it never failed me under SASS competition conditions.  8)
