+1 On everything Drydock & St. George said including the wish that you wouldn't cut down an original.

When I was doing Living History at Ft. Hartusff I bought a Pedersoli so that I wouldn't have to ding up originals. If you ruin a repro you can go out and buy another. Pedersoli will make more. If you ruin an original, history is just gone.

I like my Pedersoli's. They are well made and they are accurate. There are plenty of already cut down rifles out there. Either option would be good for your GAF participation.

Wish I'd known that,  Mine's # 47!  Was yours one of the plated ones?  (Cherry's commissioned a run of these for said anniversary in 1998, then had trouble selling them.  I got one of the last on the rack, discounted quite a bit.  Some were fancy plated, some done blue and CCH.  Mine is one of the latter)

I was not aware of any plated ones. Mine was in the white steel. It had not been properly cared for so the was rust scale and pitting and some black finger prints on the barrel. The wood was as new. Found it on GunBroker for $300, listed as a rolling block with no finish left. Worked out great for me!

The guy at Cherrys told me they ordered 125 of them with the custom serial number, in the white.  The first 25 got silver plate with gold accents, the rest got sent to Doug Turnbull for Blue/CCH.  Evidently not many liked the pimped ones.  Sounds like someone stripped yours and did'nt finish the job!  These were among the first of the Pedersoli Trapdoors.  2002 there were 3 still in the rack, 2 silver, 1 Blue/CCH.

Cherrys is a great place BTW.  If you're ever in North Carolina I reccomend it!

BTW, thats a GREAT price up there in Cabelas.
Civilize them with a Krag . . .

Their request for Trapdoor carbine's..........................I acquired about 25 or so Rifles...............  all fell to my powered hack saw

While it has a set screw, the shaft interface is square instead of round, so the problems that plagued the H&R do not occur with the Pedersoli.

Mine shot LOW with Milspec loads, I had to file the sight down to reach point of aim.  IE Pedersoli gave it extra front sight so you can set it up with your loadings.

Mine shoots dead on at 100 yards, with the sight folded. But, I do not shoot the standard 405 gr 45-55 carbine load, but full rifle 45-70 loads. That does make it shoot higher. I suspect the "extra front sight" on the Pedersoli was originally done for folks shooting factory 45-70.

That WAS a good price on the Uberti carbine at Cabelas! Guess that's why it's sold. Thank you for the link anyway! I've still got a few months to shop.
