Our local club had one of these. Very informal as to time period, just a shotgun match as a side on the BP range. The clay birds were all throne by a hand tool.
The only smooth bore I had was an original M-1842 Musket that had been cut down to a 33 in barrel length, (the originals had 42 inch barrels). It was great fun for all.
I bring this subject up just to let folks know that these kind of shoots do not have to set in the formal attire of a specific time period to be enjoyed.

At on point there was an organization called the California Side X Side Club that was part of the Order of Edwardian Gunners.  Most of the clubs have split away from that organization because of some legal issues.  The California Side X Side Club may still exist if any or you want to check into the organization.

I keep coming back to this thread. Kilts and percussion doubles rate high on my list.
I have an 1860s W.C. Scott 12-bore in bound. Now to see to this kilt business.

Wow, those are amazing.  College roommate was clan Campbell.  I am going to have to send him that picture.

Unfortunately I do not descend from a Highland clan, my Scottish ancestors coming from the border reivers of "The Debatable Lands."

The sporran is a war surplus item I found in a pawn shop for $5 about 15 years ago. It needs repair as the threads have deteriorated. TOTW has an antique version of a sporran if you search around. They are fairly easy to make by a mediumly experienced maker. That's me, cheap & mediumly

Bill,

No need these days to descend from the Highlands nor to even be of Scottish descent at all.
Find a common Tartan/Plaid that you like, and go with it.
You also don't need to do the "Great" Kilt for the Edwardian time period. The "Small" kilt will do just fine if a kilt is what you want.
Trousers or Knee Breaches will do just fine as well. These maybe in a plaid, or, more commonly in a wool tweed. (My father, born in Scotland, called the knee breaks "four plus fours", I'm not sure I know why?)

Sir Charles,

Please, get yourself a Kilt.
There are a few Tartans that are not considered for common usage.
A few of these Tartans were adopted for Military usage. Only members or former members of these organizations are allowed to wear them. There are ways to get around this, such as through Historical reenactment of the unit.
A few, very few, are allowed by and for Clan Chiefs and their immediate family members. Clan Cameron is one such example.
Common Clan Tartans are pretty much up to what one likes.

I actually have a pair of corduroy breeches. Had forgotten about them. Tweed tends to make me itch. I see the better kilts are lined to prevent this.

Blair

Bill,

So are the better Tweeds.
But then again your not wearing wool against your skin.

I now have a dozen paper-wrap cartridges to test.

Sir Charles,

Do you have access to a clay bird through, and someone that can do the through for you?
That can still be a lot of fun. The more, the better.
