Was pursuing some financial news today.  Would appear Colt is on the verge of following USFA.  Without the appearance of a major Sugar Daddy, Colt will be gone.

For those interested, here is a link to an article that gives some detail:

Colt has been through this many times before.  Samuel Colt went bankrupt with the Patterson revolver.  Bankruptcy is a longstanding Colt tradition.  ::)
Should Colt go under - and I have my doubts about that - it would be a real shame for Doug Donnelly.  With Colt out of the way he could have owned the SAA market, had he stuck it out, providing he took a conservative approach.  Lets face it, while we love our SAA's, there really is a limited market for a gun design that is over 140 years old (and even older when you see that much of the 1873 mechanical design is based on revolvers that started with the 1836 Patterson).
You can't change the wind, but you can always change your sails.

Colt may very well go bankrupt, but I very seriously doubt that the firm will actually "go under" and disappear.  Colt was on the verge at least a couple of times in the 20th Century.  It's well documented that Remington, Winchester, and Smith & Wesson have all gone bankrupt at least a couple of times in their histories.

Let's see.  USFA begat ...... Zip Gun.

Colt, after some form of resurrection could beget ...... Zap Gun.  32 ACP of course  ::)

The Pathfinder

Well, they did just sorta reintroduce their 1903 hammerless at the last Shot Show, but how they intended to market them for more than the...ugh, original...ugh, first generation...ugh, whatever, is beyond my comprehension. ???

The Colt bankruptcy is a good thing...it will allow them to be taken over with new ownership...that has been studying the situation for some time....Colt has been producing very good 1911's and SAA's in recent years....(mostly)......my fear is that the SAA won't make the cut in the "real world"

Agreed.   It has now happened.  Be interesting how the next 12 months sorts itself out.
