I just bought my first '47 Colt Walker (Uberti).  My question is to those who shoot Walkers.  I doubt that I will shoot the Walker for cowboy stages, but I might try it for a Josey Wales match.  For those who shoot the Walker... How good is it at ranges of 50 yards say up to 70 - 75 yards?

I have not got to shoot mine as of yet. At our monthly long range shoot we have a pistol category for targets out at 50 and staggard up to 70, 75 yards. Has anyone engaged targets with their Walkers at or near those ranges ?  Ifn so... what load(s) were you using and I will assume a lead ball .454".  Asking before I try it.

This thing is a "REAL" Hawg Leg and heavy too... LOL.  I thank you in advance.  Tom Horn

;D  Tom you are gonna love that Walker,.At 50 yards mine Uberti Walker is almost as accurate as a rifle. And off a rest it will tear up a bowling pin at 100 yds.
Aye its been quite a ride aint it?

I've never shot at a paper target past 25 yds with mine, but have shot at distant targets 50-100 yds away and all I can tell ya, I wouldn't want to have been that target. The Walker "ain't no" 2-3" paper hole puncher at long range, but as designed for man and beast, it "ain't no" slouch. I use a .454 ball, lube wad, and most of the time around 45 g's of FFF, although I have used 50 grains when I'm feelin' perky! That 50 grain load is one flame throwin dragon-shock and awe, leaves enough smoke to scatter skeeters' if your shootin in a swampy area for 25 yds around ya!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Mine was a tack driver at 50 yards with 50 grains of powder and a .454 round ball. Hate myself for selling it, but life gets you sometimes. I'm sure it'd be a solid handgun out to 75 yards.

At 4 lbs and 10 oz there is not much recoil with 55gs of BP and a 454 RB. Lotta flame lotta smoke. My 45 NMV's recoil a LOT more with 35gs of BP and a 230 g bullet. To put it in perspective I have one of the Uberti revolver rifles and it only weighs 2lbs 8 ozs. wM1

I haven't shot mine past 25 yards, will have to take them out this fall and play---er, experiment at longer ranges.

I did shot a pair of them for CAS matches, the timers and spotters always backed up when I was shooting a stage.

Toughest problem is steadying the Walker for long shots. :) Uberti makes accurate revolvers and quality of the "big" guns from Uberti has been spot-on....little deuring and smoothing needed.

. I watched a posse member use his on steel at an NCOWS national match match years ago. For those who don't know NCOWS...this group mixes up target placement and distances. That year a series of pistol targets were spaced out between 15 - 45 yds, and my NCOWS friend hammered them pretty well in a double duelist style. I've shot Walkers and I own a couple Dragoons. A nice load for a Dragoon is 35 gr FF + 200 grain soft lead bullet. I've used pure-lead cast bullets from a couple of Lee molds (not designed for C&B). I Run the base into a .451 sizing die (roughly 1/16") helps get them started straight.. Could use the Lee Conical for .44 revolvers, I might get that mold someday. Anyway, This load replicates the effect of my rifle loads in 44-40 on steel targets......but, overkill for typical CAS match. Walker could bump the powder charge a bit. I shoot all my C&B at extended range up to 100 yds. I cheat & use two hands for long-range. A good percussion pistol in the hands of a knowledgeable shooter can produce awesome results out to 100 yds..

As always,...Have fun,

I remember reading that the Walker was as accurate at 100 yards as the Springfield rifle/musket...

Well I managed to get some time and tried mine out at 100 yards on a steel echo target.  Took a couple of cylinder fulls to figure out where I was hitting, my berm is covered with grass so no noticeable dust kicking up, especially through the cloud of smoke.  Once I figured out the hold, I could pretty much ring it all day long.  Thing that got me was both were shooting about 2' to the right, and about 6" high.  Normally this load shoots about 8" high at 15-20 yards.  Load was 50 grains 2F Graf's with Lee conical 200 grainer.  The sights really suck for distance work, but as long as I did my part I could hold a rough 10" group.  With good sights, and maybe younger eyes I have no doubt the pistols can do better.  No idea why there both shooting off to the right though.  Will have to take my Dragoons out and see if it holds true for them as well.
