I've learned that a group is working up an event for the centennial of Villa's raid on Columbus for March 12, 1916.

Here is the preliminary information:

Subject: Press Release To U.S. Cavalry

PUNITIVE EXPEDITION CENTENNIAL CAMP FURLONG 2016

March 9, 2016 will mark the 100th anniversary of Pancho Villa's raid on Columbus New Mexico. This raid on Camp Furlong and the U.S. 13th Cavalry Regiment sparked The Punitive Expedition. The campaign commanded by Brigadier General Jack Pershing, led over 7000 cavalry troopers more than 500 miles into Mexico. U.S. president Woodrow Wilson called National Guard units from all 48 states, these 110,000 soldiers were placed on the border from Texas to California.

On March 7, 2015 troopers Jon Calder and Ray Thomas traveled to Columbus to reconnoiter the site of Camp Furlong. Camp Furlong is now the site of Pancho Villa State Park that includes a very nice museum dedicated to the Punitive Expedition.

Troopers Calder and Thomas met with John Reed, the manager of Pancho Villa State Park. Mr. Reed has given the permission to establish an historical encampment in the park near the museum,

The village of Columbus offers a gasoline station, a small convenience store wl1h a few food supplies and ice,

This coming March 12, 2016 is once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate the last full scale deployment of the U.S. horse cavalry. If you don't have the uniform and equipment of the era, there are numerous companies that sell reproductions of an the uniforms and tack needed. The exception ls the 1903 military rifle. Cavalry, infantry, and artillery impressions are welcome. Also needed are motorcycles, Model T Ford cars and H.Q. equipment.

Just the one horse anymore, it's my daughters Show horse...

Me ?  I'm past horse'n' around ...Ride' n' a tad hard put up wet...   but Bike , or Model T  yeah I'd like to go...

I'd love to do that. But my Harley's about 73 years too new. Don't have any horses that are broke to ride. Oldest vehicle is a 1950 GMC. Closest I ever came to a Curtiss Jenny was model airplane when I was a kid. Guess all I could do is just dress period and stand around......that sounds fun too!
