.516-375. Is available.  Who is gonna be the guinea pig?

Looks a lot like the Rapine 350 T mould, for me this bullet sits to fare in the case reducing powder capacity and making OAL a bit short in original Spencers using Starline Brass ,if you have a Spencer that will accept longer cases it would be a good bullet I would think

Sir Charles deMouton-Black

I might want to try it in a Swedish 12.11 44 R rolling block.  The Lyman 515139 mould I use now doesn't hold enough lube.

   Greetings!

Looks like it has good heft, and perhaps, too long... Would it hit 900f/s +/- in my ArmiSport Infantry Rifle, and still hold the damned 22" Twist without exotic alloys...? Hmmm.

Hello, Matt:
Didn't know the AS rifling twist is 22".  That seems a bit fast.  The orig Spencer bullets are nominally 1.6 calibers long and shot well with a 36" -38" twist in 1860's and 34" twist in Burnsides, per Herbert here a while back.  Larry's 315 gr. bullet is approx 1.4 calibers long and shoots fine in either 32" or 36" twists at around 1,000fps.

I've experimented with twists and bullet lengths at around 1200fps and found 2.75 calibers long to 3 calibers long are fine in 18" - 20".  18" was great.

I don't know why a 1.4 - 1.6 cal long bullet shoots fine in relatively slow 32" - 36" twists, unless very slow velocity is the factor.

Anyway, the Moose bullet at its weight appears to be 1.6 cals long.  If so, and at 900fps, it may be a little overstabilized in a 22" twist.  I'd cast in 16Bhn and just try it.  Dr. Mann demonstrated in the early 1900's that it is actually rather difficult to get soft alloy bullets to strip in faster twists.  Observation of the holes in targets will indicate any "wiping".

My bet is the longer bullet might be a nice surprise.  It just takes space for powder.
Please let us know what you learn.  Regards.  Kevin

   Greetings, El Supremo!

Original Spencer RF ctgs have relatively soft bullets, and I prefer not having to harden bullets to take faster twists; I also prefer a tad more authenticity ( i.e. leisurely rifling twists ) that are more accommodating to various alloys ( for me, at least ).
I'll try softer alloys. I'm moving to Colorado in about a month, and I'll unpack my .50 moulds! I'll keep you all posted!

           Be Well!

Thaks, Matt:

Hope all's well.  Colorado sounds better.  Enjoy.

   Greetings!

Coming from Orange County, CA. I'd been wanting to get out of CA for awhile; I was laid off after my 50th B-Day, and the economy had been unkind to my life savings. Then, the clouds parted, and my Sister (re)invited me to move in with her Family in Lafayette, CO; I'll actually begin the move this Friday the 23rd.
Priority One will be a job; then, a new Masonic Lodge, etc. and shooting! If anyone's "local", I'd be tickled to make the acquaintance, as I'll be ready for, "...new friends and stranger companies."! I believe that I'll be using WiFi, but I should be online relatively quickly...

         Be Well!

It sure looks like the Rapine 350T. That would be great if it is since Ray Rapine retired a number of years ago. That bullet is extremely accurate in my 1871 Springfield Spencer conversion. This rifle has a 1-42 twist. I load it over 45gr of Goex 2F. It shoots great.

I looked at the mountain molds web site but could not find this mold. For that matter I didn't find a list of molds either. Not a very user friendly web site. But if it is a dupe of the Rapine 350T, then it should be a winner. Here is what the Rapine 350T does in my 1871 Springfield Spencer rifle:

Just a suggestion on my part,
Moose Moulds offers a web site as well as a Facebook page over on the NSSA website.
I don't due Facebook and am not looking to buy any new moulds, so I have not checked it out myself.
However, You all may want to check these out for yourself?

Moose molds, not mountain molds.

Duh - my mistake. Reading this on a Blackberry, I need better glasses!

It is not on their main website yet.  The picture I posted was from their Facebook page.
