I always loved floral carved leather and have wanted to try it for some time. I bought a swivel knife and some assorted stamps for the task last year but just hadn't had time to put them to use. I got inspired last week and decided to finally try my hand at it. With Will's online tutorial, I thought the Hand of God holster would be perfect for my first try. I need a few more stamps and a better swivel knife blade but I think it turned out pretty good.

Hi

That's on my list of things to do.  I hope mine turns out that well.

That is one beautiful Holster. Hard to believe this was your first try at carving. We look forward to seeing your future projects.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

PRETTY GOOD ????
That looks dern ner PERFECT.

My first try at leather carving a belt,  looked more like I just drug my belt through some thorn bushes.

I have to agree that this is much better than most 'first tries'. Looks great, pard! Very well done.

Thank you guys, very  much! There is a lot of talent on this forum and y'all have always been an inspiration and a source of encouragement. If any of you have any critiques or suggestions, they would be well received and appreciated.

Craig two thumbs up for a very nice carving especially for a first attempt - as always practice makes perfect (or well close to it!)

Thank you very much! I know it ain't perfect, I see every flaw in it but it turned out much better than I expected. I thought the results were very encouraging. I'm itching to do another!  ;D

Cheer up things could be worse, sure enough I cheered up and they got worse.

Well done!

Mine turned out nicely also, and it was kindly commented on here.  It was my first also.  As my parents used to say;  "A man running for his life couldn't tell the difference".  Meaning it had flaws but only a maker would notice.  Which brngs me around to the fact that these patterns are really excellent, and even a beginer will get great results.

That looks pretty doggone good. Did you do the toe plug too? I've done the HOG rig and my toe plug turned out OK, but nowhere near what W.G.'s did. I just recently tried my hand at the W.G. Cheyenne rig based on the PI Meanea holster, and the toe plug was even worse. Your holster looks very well done!

I've looked at it all over again and it's very impressive for a first time!
By the way, are those Tru-Ivory grips?

Thanks again! Those are real ivory from Nutmeg, sixgun is a USFA Pre-war .44Spl.

I didn't do the toe plug on this one but I've done a couple on other patterns. Here's what it looked like on one of my flap patterns. I think it was my first toe plug.

Very nice, and not to hijack, but what is that color called? I really like those dark brown & reddish brown hues, but so many holster makers offer black or tan >:(

This is excellent work, and I would have never guessed it was your first!
