Your opinion on a multi-loader

Hi, Folks:

Just perusing my latest copy of MUZZLELOADER and stumbled on a "Quick 6 Revolver Loader"
on page 61. The item allows a person to set the cylinder on a base and by turning a screw
seat all 6 balls simultaneously and at the same pressure.

Now, I had given much thought to purchasing a loader just to save wear-and-tear on my own piece,
and the one I had in mind loads a chamber at a time. Now I'm giving this new item a thought
(it only runs about $30USD) but my luck is that I would get it and some hidden danger would make itself manifest.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how viable it would be to have an item that loads all six cylinders at the same time
versus doing the loading a chamber at a time? Thoughts?

Best Wishes,

Bruce

Do you have a link that shows a picture of this device?  Kind of hard to have any thoughts on something you have not seen.

I can scan the ad and post it here. I just wanted to make sure that would not break
any rules. Are any of the admins listening....?

I have seen a similar loader available in Europe but no one seems interested to sell or make it in the states - last time I checked was 2011.

It was made of high impact resistant polymer and was red.

I would like to see that scan also.  Somewhere way back in the memory is something that perhaps DGW carried at one time, a revolver cylinder cleaner.  Just guessing but it was perhaps a ring that held six mops or brushes that allowed tending all six cylinders simultaneously.  Not being sure how accurately the c&b cylinders depths are bored, is it possible that the loads would not be rammed to the same pressure??

It seems like a good idea, but I can also see chances of those pistons going out of alignment. Thoughts?

BTW: There is also no mention of using conicals. Just sayin.....

:o Wow.  Interesting indeed.  However, at this point in time, that little doodad is only available for Ruger Old Army.  No mention of us whom shoot other things.  Like Reproduction Colts, Colts, Reproduction Remingtons, Remingtons.  Other stuff.  Ya know??

I kind of think, by the time you get that thing screwed down, then screwed back out, I could have both my cylinders loaded and ready to go.  While it's interesting from a purely mechanical standpoint, I "personally" think it's a solution looking for a problem.  :P

I agree with Coffinmaker.  To me it seems a bit of 'overthink'.  Once again: K.I.S.S.

That was sorta along the lines of my own thinking: "The more things you put into an item, the more that can go wrong".

Back to my original thought then. Anyone have a single-loading press they are particularly fond of?

Actually yes.  If we are talking about a cylinder loading stand for BP.  I shoot FCGF with 1860 and 1851 Snubbies.  3 inch barrels.  No loading rammer and no place to put one.  Plus, I like to pull my cylinder and barrel between stages for a quick wipe down.  So ......
(song way around) I have to give a shameless plug to "The Tower of Power" from Dirty Dick Dastardly.  It's quick, It's simple, It's easy and it will seat a ball perfectly on a "lesser" powder charge.  I really like it.

Coffinmaker

PS:  It will also seat a ball perfectly on a "greater" powder charge as well as seat a slightly oversize ball.  Not that any of us have really big balls  ;D

Bruce W Sims

Glad somebody else took the low hanging fruit...?... and slipped a "ball" reference in there.
Does Dick's little machine also work with conicals? Inquiring people want to know.

Ah ..... Well ..... I honestly don't know. ???  I've never been tempted by Conicals.  I just had very good luck with Plain old Balls.

Off a rest, all of my Snubbies will hold a group about the size of a folded dollar bill with just about anybodies balls.  Stand on my hind legs
and really concentrate, I can shoot into minute of pie plate all day.  So, I've just never been tempted by Conicals.

Balls!!!  Said the queen, for she had none,  Had I but two, I'd be King!!  Twodn't that be fun.

Coffinmaker

PS:  'Nother shameless plug for Tower of Power.  I have two.  One for .44 and one for .36.  I know, you get the guide and rammer for both in the package and switching is quick and easy.  Lets not forget.  I'm lazy.  Pick a caliber, grab a Tower and hit the road.

Dick Dastardly

Howdy Bruce,

The Tower of Power cylinder loading stand works with balls and conicals equally well.  I charge Five chambers, set the projectiles in place and ram them home one after the other.  Quick, easy, precise.  Big Lube®LLC conicals have a rebate base for easy alignment.  They sit proud and straight for seating.

Give me a phone call with any questions.  It's on my web site on the face page.  http://www.biglube.com/

Thanks for asking.

Yup! Looks like it would absolutely perfect fer those into serious precision shooting with C&B pistols.....not so much fer CAS though.

Hey Cuts,

Serious Precision Shooting with Cap & Ball Pistols.  Really??  Seriously??  Well, maybe I shouldn't be such a Wisenheimer.  I would suppose there probably are those who enjoy extracting the utmost in accuracy from a Cap Gun.  For an endeavor like that, that screw clamp doohickey would be just the bee's Kneeze.  Just seems "Serious Precision" and a Cap & Ball Revolver seem ........ Oxy..a..mor....
Never Mind.

The NSSA 25 yd. event for a percussion revolver match are:

•25 yards - 12 clay pigeons on a cardboard backer
•25 yards - 8 hanging 4"x4" ceramic tiles
•25 yards - 8 hanging clay pigeons

That's one handed as well.  ;)

@ Dick:

Then I'm getting the idea that the sort of "precision" (IE "same seating pressure") referenced in the ad is rather much
a mute point, is that right? What I mean to say is that loading each individual cylinder
and loading all cylinders at the same time will not produce meaningful variance (between the two systems)
among the chambers. Yes? No? Thoughts?

Speaking of accuracy from C&B.....I attended an NCOWS National Match (2006 maybe?). Someone devised a sidematch where the shooter fired at RR spikes setup such that a "hit" on the head caused it to "drive" into the backer. These were set out a ways...maybe 20-25 yds(?). Made shooting playing cards look easy. I actually hit a few with my 1860s, shooting one-handed....but I really mean just a few. I don't recall anyone getting 10-fer-10.

I have a somewhat elaborate cylinder loader, but it is rarely used. Too much weight, and it actually takes me longer to load using it.
I can't imagine using a screw-powered loader...and all at once?.... a lever is just too easy & quick, I reckon. Too each their own.
