This Winter I built a little fantasy gun I called the Remington Bulldog. This is a snub nosed version of the big, Remington New Model Army, .44 caliber, cap and ball revolver. This video shows the newly built snubby at the range.

I would have left the Allen head cap screw.

It's refreshing to see someone boldly take a file and hacksaw to a gun and remodel it.   Hack on!

Can't say thanks enough, Mike, for sharing your videos. The only problem is you keep giving me ideas for projects!! There seems to be endless fiddlin' possible with these cap & ball guns and that's one of the reasons they are so much fun. Please keep 'em coming!!! :)

Snubbies.  Are.  FUN!!  After becoming hooked on Snubbies, I decided I'd shot FCGF with a brace of 3 inch barrel 1860s I built.  Entirely too much FUN.  Was surprised at how accurate a little short barrel gun can be.  Lotta grins and giggles.

No apologies or excuses needed about using your tailgate. I load on my pickups tailgate, too Mike.
I do keep an old throw rug in back to work off off as it keeps my balls (among other things) from landing in the rough.
Your setscrew is a neat idea, and easy solution. I am also thinking of a spring-loaded ball-detent. Used to be able to buy complete miniature versions which would thread into a blind hole. I'm sure I have a couple...but where? These look like the retainer used for many shotgun magazine caps.

Ok, maybe someone will think to give that a try. I took your idea of cutting down a Rem to heart years ago when they were not available.. Sometime back in the 90's I hacked mine to 4", re-installed the factory sight and remodeled the loading lever to function, too.

I'll share my "trick" on removing/installing the cylinder. I always move it in (or out) from left to right. I start with the hammer down and gently roll the cylinder in (or out) as I start to raise the hammer. Works quite well & easy to control. Keeps the cylinder from getting scratched by the bolt. My pistol is almost 40 years old and does not have a "line" all around (yet).
