I got my Warthog certification from John Boy a long time ago.  Still have it framed and hanging on my eclectic den (aircraft and western firearms).  I'll try and attach the jpeg  made out of it).  Being below the M's I didn't make it in the recovery.

John Boy; Thanks for relating the origin and history of Warthogs. I'm sure your vote, if it comes to that, would be a VERY influential one.

I have been watching and commenting on the A-10 debate on facebook. I am a trained FAC, but never had the honour to work with the A-10. I was offered a tour in Bosnia as an FAC, but declined as I had just started my dream job as a prosecutor. Oh Well!

I never applied for or requested to be a 'WARTHOG' anywhere, but I've been a 'WARTHOG' shooter ever since I started shooting and reloading anything above a 22 long rifle rimfire 43 some years ago. I've played around with Sir Charles's 'GAMER' loads once back when I was reloading for Police Competition shooting 38 Specials-didn't see any advantage. Went the route of being a 'CRAMMER' reloading magnum pistol loads, learned their wasn't anything to really be gained. Before any of you black powder only guys get riled, I also went the route of loading my first capn' ball 44 and a 45 caliber muzzle loadin' rifle with 'tinker' and too much 'shock and awe' for the need also. All my capn' ball loadings and metallic loads for black powder are in the WARTHOG class, plenty of boom, smoke, and get good accuracy. Shooting such loads is much more enjoyable. Not requesting to be on any list or castin a vote-just sayin.

Sir Charles: I was scratchin my head tryin to figure out what you were referring to about the A-10 debate, until I saw a link a cousin of mine put on facebook about a General getting in trouble about threatening some officers about any info they may/maynot talk about if asked ref the A-10 Warthog. Is this what you were referring too? Have read that some of the powers that be wanted to scrape the A-10, but it was doing such a good job again that it was getting a new life. I work with a Air Force vet who was a maintenance crew chief for A-10's in Afgan and other bases. Great Bird!!!

Yup! That's the one. And you have the gist of the story.

Aye its been quite a ride aint it?

+1 what Qball and medic15al said.

While I'll never win any CAS matches, I find them pleasant to shoot and a great means to "tweak" the gamers.  Fun is a full service load 45-70 in a lever gun shooting Cody Dixon category.  ;D

I really enjoy shooting my .40+ caliber guns at SASS matches.  Yes, I've shot sub .40 guns and they are fine, but. . .  they just don't satisfy my urge to roar.  It's probably the Walter Mitty in me, but I do get more fun with more roar.  Does that make me any better shooter than the piff-ting gamer?  Probably not, but I don't wear pink as well either. . .

Of course purple is the traditional colour of 16 gauge hulls. :) :)   Current Federal 16 ga. ammo is purple. 8)

P.S: While scrounging hulls, I came across a few PINQUE Federal 12 gauge hulls!! :D

I just scored another Stevens 311 in 16ga.  It looks like new.  Very shiny bores, nice wood and no wear showing.  And yes, the hulls are mostly purple.  But, I do have a thousand or so red and another 500+ green 16ga hulls.

For reasons I have yet to learn, the little 16ga takes down the KDs better than my Stoeger SxS 12 ga I used at the last match.

Anyway, now I have Three 16ga shotguns so I'm passing one of them on to my sidekick, Silas McFee.
