I tried not to duplicate here by doing a search for "triple7" and "777" - nada.

My question for those of you who use it is: Can I load it like Black in a cartridge?  I sent this question to Hogedon on the 21st and they have not replied.

I've read that the (Blackhorn/Buckhorn?) is hotter then Black and the loads don't look to me like they would fill the case, could a person fill the case with Triple 7?
Then should it be compressed or not. One powder I read about on here (forgot which one) said not to compress but leave no air space.

So can I fill the case with it compressing or not to the bottom of the wad and bullet/or just bullet and be ok pressure wise?

Triple 7 likes the case full, but not compressed. I've loaded a lot for my '66 carbine, in .45, but I really don't like those loads in a SAA. They're pretty hot, I'm not sure I would recommend them for an open top. I use Schofield brass when I load for my pistol, I have used 777 or Goex both for that. I've never used wads, or filler with 777, and I can't remember what the manufacturers recommendations are for that.

I can't get any manufacturer recommendations either that's why I'm here. I could just go with Black but thought the 777 may burn cleaner.

Just read a post where the poor fellow filled his 44 spl case with Pyrodex and wrecked his gun, also an OT. I would like to avoid that and thank you for the reply.

Anyone else?

The standard directions for 777 are to use it on a volume for volume basis with BP.  The only difference is that BP usually likes some compression.  Hodgdon's recommends the bullet just touching the powder and not compressing it.

I fill the case to the point where the bottom of the bullet will be -- in other words, full without compression.

Like others have said, I find loads of Triple 7 too hot in the pistols.  They work great in the rifle, though, and allow one to shoot all day long without fouling.

Triple 7 works . I was using it in my 1873 in 44wcf . The Deer was shot at 65 yards through the lungs . He went 20 yards and was down . When I field dressed the deer both lungs were reduced to 2 blood clots . The little 44wcf made a believer out of me .
