Was checkin Dixie Gunworks last night on the web, they have percussion revolvers of various makes/models on sale. Not the cheapest I've ever seen, but cheaper than many prices I've seen listed elsewhere.
Uberti 1st Dragoon $350----Uberti Whitneyville Dragoon $375----Uberti and Pietta 61 Navy $295---Uberti Remington $285----Uberti 51 Navy $275-----Pietta 60 Army $245
For what it's worth, I have no stock or money involved with Dixie or am trying to take business away from any other dealer-just my disclaimer!!!!!! I am one to always do business with local gunshops, to support them, but what I've seen in my area, fewer shops carry percussion firearms if at all. If they do its all geared to in-line muzzleloaders (which I have no time for).

Not to offend anyone....but I'm not sure I see anything particularly attractive about
the items OR the price point. Just sayin....

Back when I was searchin prices for a Colt Conversion style revolver, I called and talked with Dixie about Dixie's warranty, returns, customer service, etc, on firearms--was advised no problem as long as firearm wasn't abused in anyway or was unfired. It's been a while since I've ordered from Dixie, but I've always had excellent service with them. Started doing business with them back in the early 70's. Never have purchased a firearm from them, not saying I won't though. Have never heard any negative reports about Dixie's firearms dealings. The thing to do is call em' The $350 price on those Uberti Dragoons is the same I paid Cimarron for a 2nd Model back in early 2007, believe the price through Taylors and Cimarron is around $435- $450 now. Always have had an itch to have one of the Whitneyville Dragoons-tryin to keep from scratchin it, can't shoot all the one's I have now.

Not offended Bruce-posted the info in case anyone was in the search for any percussion revolver and was not finding what they want or what different outfits were sellin them for. There's more out there besides Cabela's, Dixie, even Taylors and Cimarron. Used to be at gun shows within 100 miles from me, there were always sellers with black powder guns and accessories. Getting to be few or none at all. A lot of gun shops won't stock for lack of interest, those that do it's inline stuff and substitute black powder. I've purchased black powder firearms from all of the outfits I listed, except Dixie. Dixie's prices aren't really that bad if you search the web and discount all the brass frame guns being sold as the style Jesse James, Wyatt Earp, etc was supposed to have carried-they are 'junk' for the most part. Not tryin to drum up business for Dixie-just posted it for information to anyone interested. Good day to ya!!!

Thanks, Crow...and thanks for confirming what I have been experiencing for a little bit now. I have run  into
the same trend of gunshops not carrying BP stuff which is probably why I am such an avid fan of becoming
self-sufficient with my BP shooting. I know I will need help from a gunsmith for any technical problems, but
I hope to be able to be semi-autonomous in casting my own conicals/balls, making my own lube and so forth.

I think my comment about the price point for BP pistols has more to do with cost-benefit than anything else. For instance, I
typically choke when I see what a classic Shiloh SHARPS goes for. But then I read all of the glowing reports of how
customers are provided for and I realize that there is some legitimate value-added bits to consider. I haven't heard similar
reports about the folks we are discussing. Do you think anyone has had the same positive experiences to justify the
prices being asked?  Thoughts?

All my dealings with Dixie Gunworks, have been positive.  No problems, they have been great.  They also have a good selection of black powder firearms.  I think more then anyone else.
Finding cap & ball revolvers is a hard thing to do here in the Northeast, and when you do they tend to be pricey, and the selection isn't that good.  The shops in my area, if they have C&B they are brass frame and at higher price then either Dixie or Cabela's sell them at.  I wouldn't hesitate to do business with Dixie.

I bought the Uberti 1861 and 1851 that are on sale from DGW last month.  They sure are beautiful.

Looking at these quoted prices leave me green with envy, here in France (the country right next door to Italy where these are made), the price of these Uberti's is almost exactly double, I cannot see how after shipping across the pond there is any profit being made on at these prices, but then almost everything in America is really cheap, I just get hit by the tax when I import things!

Appreciate the heads up, Crow Choker. I am glad to know when someone is running a sale. As for the current price for cap & ball pistols, haven't we all been complaining for years about the sometime spotty quality on these guns? Reading recent posts leads one to believe there's been an increase in quality control across the board. If you want a better product you have to pay for it. I would much rather pay a bit more for a gun that was right in the first place. Everyone jokes about these guns turning Americans into "kitchen table gunsmiths" and that has been true for me. But I still would rather be able to take a gun right out of the box and shoot it instead of getting it home a playing the "guessing game" as to what you have.
As to the lack of blackpowder products at gun shows, I have noticed the same thing here in the Northeast. The last show I attended had exactly one table devoted to this. I feel very lucky to be within a reasonable driving distance from Dixon's Muzzleloading Shop in Kempton, PA. When I want something, I just drive over there and they are nice people to deal with.

One would think with the drop in value of the Euro the prices of these would somewhat come down.

Darn. I'd love to grab some of these, but I've got to save up and grab a '66 rifle and then one of those Remington Revolving Carbines first. Gotta have priorities.

Cabelas has a number of C&B guns on sale at pretty good prices also.  It's good to compare prices with several sources.

Not to take anything away from the commercial enterprises, I have used both Dixie Gunworks and Cabela's in the past, but
I like to spread my dollars back around to my fellow forum buddies in these cases.  I wanted a Colt Model 1860 Army this year out of my Income Tax refund.  Shopping around I found a cased set with Powder Measure, Bullet Mold and the box for $300 from a fellow forum buddy.  The revolver is supposedly unfired, but I fully intend to take care of that little hiccup in short order.  This will also give me the opportunity to make up some new leather goods.

Here in Canada, we have a business by the name of Marstar, in Ontario.  Currently they have Pietta c & b revolvers in stock and for sale for almost exactly the same price as Cabelas in the States.  But the shipping is FREE!  That saves about $50 on an order.  So I just recently bought a pair of 1851's with 'ivory' grips and engraving -  their 'Delux' models - together with a pair of extra cylinders to go with them. I was sketical about the fit of replacement cylinders, but was really tickled to find out that they transfer and work perfectly.

Tomorrow, I'll take them to the range for a test shooting...exciting!!

Before you cycle those 51s too many times, pull em apart and check the fit of the locking bolt to the cylinder slots.  95% of the time, they
will need to be fit to prevent damage to the cylinders and eventual Throw-By.

Gabriel Law

Thanks for the heads-up Coffinmaker!  Are you saying that on these Pietta revolvers, the bolt might need filing to go all the way into the cylinder slots?  They seem to be fine at first glance, and I did shoot them and their spare cylinders yesterday.  When I got to the shop after the shooting session, I cleaned them and did not notice anything untoward/damage on the cylinders.  Lock up at full cock is good, and so is the timing.  What exactly do you think may be an issue?

Since this year-old thread was regarding cap-n-ball pricing, I thought this might be an appropriate place for a suggestion to anyone who might be contemplating ordering one from Cimarron.  While it is true that anybody (in most states, that is) can order a percussion gun and have it delivered to their home, you will be paying full retail.  If you have a local FFL order it for you, he will get it for dealer price, so even with his markup you can save money.  For example, dealer price on a dragoon is about $100 under retail, so he can make $50 and you can save $50.  I would expect dealers can also get percussion guns under retail from Taylors, EMF, etc as well, though I'm not positive.
