I bought a box of 25 16 Ga. hulls from Magtech a few years ago. Don't know if they are still available.

+1 to what Hellgate said.  Your shot column is to long.  Winchester doesn't make the Red anymore, although Claybusters still makes a version of it.  And, you really don't need the 80 grains people use to use in them.  For cowboy shooting I use the Winchester (or Claybusters equivalent) orange wad.  Use about 50 grains (by volume) of powder and one ounce of shot and it fits in the Remington STS hull just fine.  Also works well in the Winchester AA hulls.
I use the same load and find that the shot column is just a little short. A light over shot card is enough to make the shell close up perfectly.
I punch the cards out of any light card stock you might have around. I use a cheap 9/16 hollow punch on a plastic cutting board. I pile 6-8 layers at a time, smack it hard with a hammer and you're good to go.

Yep ! Brass is the way to go,. I load 12's, 16's & 410's. The 410's are a Hoot to shoot, I use #6 or #4 shot in them.

Howdy Sgt. John, as others have said your column is too long......you don't say which CB wad yer using. The only down side to the Load All is there is no wad pressure other than the final crimp, still you should be able to make some really nice BP rounds with the right wad. Again as others have said the Win WAA 12R (CB 1138-12) is good for about 60-65gr and 1 1/8oz shot. I prefer to use a little less BP and have found several wads that fit all my needs. Besides the Win Pink wad there are several short shell wads from BPI that really work well.

1 1/8oz - 54-57gr ffg with BPI short wad #72SSW..........my favorite for big matches ;)
Short Shell #72SSW
1oz - 48-50gr ffg with BPI Helix Driver #18.......another big match fav
Helix #18
7/8oz - 43-45gr ffg with Win Pink wad AA12SL (CB1100-12).......my local fav ;D
WAA12SSL
7/8oz - 45-47gr ffg with BPI Helix Driver #21......works good with the new two piece AA hulls
Helix #21

Another problem alot of us have run into is Win changing thier AA wads to 2 piece. Even with 45lbs of wad pressure I still get a slight ring around most of the AA wads, they still shuck fine. I prefer to use the Rem STS way over the new AAs, no rings no crunching. I can usually get 4 smokeless reloads from the STS before they spend thier final match with BP, the AAs are only good for one round. I used to be able to setup both machines to run the AA with just a tiny hole, and the STS looking like a factory round. Now for a happy medium the AA has a hole almost big enough for a #8 BB to fall out , with the STS being a slight over crimp. Hope this helps....Good Luck :)

Roll crimping is very easy to do.  You can put the tool in a drill motor and spin the roll crimp down.  A simple bench clamp can hold your shot shell steady and straight.  I use a MEC Supersizer to hang on to my shell and a bench top drill press to spin the crimp down.  The roll crimp is the oldest kind of crimp and looks period correct great.  Also, the roll crimp holds better than a pie crimp, especially on fired empties.  The more times a shell is fired and pie crimped the weaker the crimp becomes.  Roll crimping holds tighter for more loadings per hull.  Also, when the case mouth starts to fail, the shell can be trimmed and reloaded with a roll crimp again and again.  For my 16ga hulls this is important because I can't pick up many once fired hulls from the discard containers at the match or the trap club.  I have to make my 16ga hulls last and last.  Also, my 10ga hulls are fairly rare and expensive.  They really need to be reclaimed and reloaded many times.

I've done a alot of roll crimping too DD, and it's a cool thing to do. But in this case I believe the poster may have been asking about brass shells, which won't take but a slight roll crimp and will need anealed before you can roll crimp again. I personally wouldn't recommend roll crimping brass shells although I have seen originals done so with a slight roll to hold the top card on.

Gotcha Roosterman.  I was talkin' paper or plastic.  Brass shells are a whole nuther matter.  For those I glue the OS wad in place with some white glue.

I'm in the same place you are, Sgt John. Creased quite a few hulls. Not sure about the volume, but I've loaded a few hulls with 35g weight of 777, Claybuster WT12 equivalent, and 1 1/8 oz shot. They don't crease and hold the crimp just fine. Have yet to shoot them though.

Well I finally had a chance to try cutting the wad down and, once I got it right, everything works fine.  No creases and the crimps are almost perfect.

Been too cold to shoot so will have to wait and see how they work.

Thank you all for the advice.  I received the wads I'm using as a gift and it was a 1,000 wad bag.  When I get through them I will look for shorter wads.

I printed off this subject so I can have it with me when I go shopping.
