OK, where do we get one of these?

Civilize them with a Krag . . .

As the Quartermaster, I don't believe we have THAT in the inventory!  I do hope that thing had an engine of some kind, else it would run on Lance Corporal Power!

It'd be hell getting it down into and up out of those gullies. Maybe we could parade it back and forth along the ridge line with targets taped to the sides of it, kinda like a Shooting Gallery.

Looks like an upside-down boat with a hog feeder bolted on top.

I'm thinking building it wouldn't be that hard but I'm wondering how we would use it.

Getting it down into the canyons would be fun but getting it back out, not so much!

I'm intrigued by your reply... you do realize , that is the kind of thinking that will start you down a road of a Hollywood Propmaker.
I'm serious , that is the type of talent it takes...  see something and begin to see how you could achieve it for the camera.

Oh, I'm just a farm boy from Nebraska. I don't know that I'd be very happy ...or popular in Hollywood.

You should come to Sargent and see some of the things I've built or re-purposed. Heck I'd even let you stay in the chicken house.

Well, it's got two stacks right in front of the turret, exhaust and intake. Could be an early farm tractor under there. don't think it could get off of flat land much, though. Looks like something from The Wild, Wild West.

Edit: Here's a thought-for the body, get an old feed storage bin, the kind with the cone shaped bottom, cut it in two lengthwise, fasten the wide ends together, then add the hog feeder on top.

That's what I thought too. It looks like it might have tracks though

I have one of those, but the feed drop is off center, so it wouldn't work as nicely as a boat turned upsidedown

Well Colonel Stong could build it I bet, I remember what he did with 2 hammers and a "damaged" garbage can lid, and it's hard to impress an old bodyman like me.

Any idea what this thing was called?
If you can identified, one might be able to find drawings from the US Patent Office.
Just a thought.

it's called a tracklayer. It was by definition a WWI US light tank. Here's a cutaway

Oh I'd hate to cut up one of those old Johnny Poppers, but dang, here would be a good base, lay-out would be a bit different, but dang, it would sound cool.

I work with a guy who's sort of an old Oliver tractor collector.  I think he has an old Cletrack, or most of one.  He wants to restore it, so he wont give/sell it.

I can just imagine that dang thing breaking down, or getting stuck in the mud, and all those poor Infantry/dismounts having to push the thing/get it unstuck.  Jeez.  Having been in a similar situation, no thank you!   ::)

Mud only lasts a short time at the camp, when the rain stops the mud goes away in an hour or so.   Also as I said in the other post, The General has ways of making things happen.   ::)

Looking at the book Sir Charles linked to, most of those tractors could go about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 miles an hour. Of all the WW1 tanks I've seen, this one looks to be one of the worst. I sure wouldn't want to be the infantry that was assigned to be close to an artillery magnet like that.  But it'd sure be cool to have one, anyway.

I had another thought looking at it, they called it a "tracklayer" But maybe they should have called it a "Land Monitor" Since it looks a lot like a Monitor ship.

I don't know what's scarier: that we know all this stuff, or that we think we could build one . . .
