I'm crestfallen to report that our own Jimmy the Groundhog has made his prognostication.  He saw his shadow and returned to his den.  He predicts SIX more WEEKS of WINTER!  Dang, and I was hoping for an early spring so I could get out and go shooting Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter.

Take heart and  remember the weatherman can be wrong 50% of the time and still keep his job.
My guess is the ground hog is not much more accurate.

We (Darby Rough Regulators) shot Saturday and me and my 1860 Henry laid down some smoke. I may have hooked another soot shooter.
He was whacking  the C/D target with the Henry and wants to shoot it next month.

Where I roam, the snowdrops have been out for two weeks and the daffodils are out some places, with acres of them to soon follow.

Our own Ontario weather sage, WIARTON WILLY, says spring will be here soon;

I like any kind of prognostications that predict an early spring.  Jimmy bit the Sun Prairie Mayor's ear and the image went viral.  But the damn whistle pig had the audacity to predict Six more weeks of winter.  For that, I'd gladly draw down on him.

I don't think we will thaw out till mid-July, here in the Noreast.  The weather guessers are saying another 15 inches of snow over the next three days, with below average temps for the next week or so.

What do they call people who leave the Northern climates during the winter months?

SMART!!!

Hope I wise up one of these days.

Ho Shawnee, You're rite on.  But don't 'em snowbirds ever like to flock home to roost come spring.  Wisconsin is beautiful as it turns green and we have some fantastic shoots.  Let 'er flicker. . . . .

He-l, I'm going out to try the new pistol this weekend.  It's going all the way up to 14 F on Sunday.

Cheers! 8)

What winter, it's been in the mid 70's and sunny the last two weeks here in Las Vegas, before that the mid 60's.  We've had maybe two weeks of cold weather around Christmas, that was it.  I've been in short sleeves since mid January.  It's going to be 77 on Monday!

Jphendren Sir,  We'll talk again in July when the sweat runs.  We've got cool for free already.  You desert types have to pay for it. ;D  I guess my question would be, is there no place half way in between that's just right all the time?  Or, would that be too boring?

DD, I believe it's called San Diego and I just think it would be so dull.

Thanks Blair and Grits, but I've grown roots here, just below the glacier, in Wisconsin.  I'll suffer till spring, we call it hunkering down, and then emerge like a butterfly fresh and ready for another summer.  I know I've complained about the winter weather but I've also found ways to pass the time. . .

DD,

We have a temp range here in FL. very much like the day to day, yearly average does in Hawaii.
It is the humidity difference that is the problem here is the Southeast. Not only during the winter months but most importantly during the summer weather.
I like shooting... Hawaii is not a place I would go for that!
But the weather? Well........

I hear ya, DD. Up here in the Great White, we learn how to hunker down too. But once in a while we come out to play, you've never really lived till you have set up a range on a frozen lake, In my opinion, anyway.

Haha, no doubt I'll be sweating come May at the latest.  Ironically, I like and prefer colder weather.  I hate hot weather, but you can't help where you were born.  We have not had a decent winter here in a couple of years, they start out fine, get cold by November, but then fizzle out in late January and it gets warm and stays that way until spring.  There is a 11,918' mountain next to town that use to stay covered in snow until May most years, now it can barely stay covered in snow in the middle of the winter!  Global warming is real folks, maybe not as far north as some of you folks live, but down in the southwest it seems pretty real.  Every winters gets weaker and weaker down here.  Ironically the summers seem to be weaker as well.  When I was a kid here in Vegas, the summers use to hit 120F on occasion, now they mostly sit around 105F.  Still hot, but not like in the 70's and 80's.

Here in Canada's Lotus Land, we were hit last night with a Pineapple Express. Now I have to go and soak up the mess.

Hot dang!  Season opener tomorrow.  I'm ready to make smoke.  I lasted another winter without putting on more pounds, my gun cart tires held air and my clean guns are all packed and ready.  My ammo supply is abundant, my duds are clean (for one match) and I've gassed up the motorized horseless carriage.

I'll report back after the shoot.
