Does Anyone Use Percussion Pistols in the Frontier Cartridge Category?

I have a hard time shooting double-duelist anymore what with moderately severe arthritis in my thumbs but still wish to shoot my c&b guns in matches occasionally.  I know that this is legal.  It would also be much slower but that's okay with me.

Frontier CARTRIDGE Gunfighter is what it says.  That being said, I'm thinkn' that most clubs will allow you to shoot C&B Gunfighter.  I expect that if enough shooters do, it'll become a SASS recognized category.  I say, enjoy the smoke!

FWIW, I've done it with my brace of ROAs.  No trouble with the club, RO or other shooters.

Those who make decisions a SASS have finally approved Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter.   Beyond that, C&B guns can legally be shot in any SASS catagory.  Personally, I have been shooting Cap Guns in Gunfighter for the past few years.  Extreme fun.
With a little practice, Cap Funs are no slower than any other handgun.  With a caviat ...... Cap Guns need to be properly and completely set up for competition.  Once that is done, just as reliable as a cartridge gun.
My "go to" guns for FCGF are several sets of Snubbies, set up for CAS.
Go for it and have FUN

I shoot percussions occasionally in FC since I do not shoot pistols well at all one handed.

I can't shoot Gunfighter because that involves cocking with the shooting hand.  I just want to shoot my c&b guns two-handed in FC.  I have a superb pair of Uberti 1860s that were tuned and equipped with cap guards and Treso nipples by the late and very great Frank Leeman (Texas Jack Omuhondro) back in 2002 or so.  Those two wonderful pistols won 1st place in Frontiersman twice at the HOW regional.

I'm now in the process of setting up some other Uberti percussion revolvers.  Little Deb and I have not been to a CAS meet in eight years.  We plan to do a little this year with both of us using regular Uberti/Colt SAA cartridge types with BP just like we did in years past.  Cocking with the offhand (left) is not painful since that thumb is much less afflicted and the range of motion is more favorable.

To all of you who could shoot Frontiersman and don't I give you the following quote by Thomas Carlyle: "The tragedy in life is not what men suffer. but what they miss."  And oh how I miss it.

Absolutely shoot them C&Bs as long as you can, any way you can pard...we never now how much longer we'll have the ability.
Unfortunately I've had to deal with extreme pain and impediments after a fall, and I've probably shot my C&B MORE during and after my worst issues, which appear to now be long-term issues.

I think we share a similar GRIT.....most just aknowledge I'm a dam stubborn fool.

Keep the faith,

I have shot C&Bs over the years in what was then just called the "Blackpowder" category. I could use two hands. Being a lefty, the hot caps would drop down between my weak and strong hand (yowee! HOT!). I still shoot them in FC occasionally when there are not enough entrants in the Frontiersman category to make a category. 90% of my CAS is Frontiersman. I've been CASing since about 1992 or 3 and I finally broke down last year and bought a pair of "suppository shooters" that load the cylinders from the rear. As was stated before, you can shoot C&B in just about any category you want and you get a free single stage reloading press with each gun. Helluva deal.

Since I have 14+ guns, I've been called the Imelda Marcos of Cap&Ball. Now, that's a COMPLIMENT!

"suppository shooter" ?

Never quite thought of then like that. Now that is funny!

I have used 1858 Remmies, 1860 Armies, and Walkers in matches while registered as FC.  I have never had any complaints.
Most of the gamers just think I am crazy to shoot C&B in the Cartridge category.
