Please check 1860 Spencer rifle serial # 13040.
Thanks.

Sorry Rim Fire,

No rifles even close to that serial #.  Carbine found with serial # 13037 but no rifles.  Are you sure about the serial #?  Sure it's an 1860 rifle and not later issue?

It appears to be a model 1860 rifle.  No new model markings.  A model 1860 rifle receiver, hammer, rear sight.  I thought the serial number is a little out of the range, but I looks right.

Rim fire

He gave me the wrong #, try 23040.
Thanks

Blair

Rim fire,

Photos would be a good thing.
What is the length of the barrel?
If the barrel length is 30 inches or maybe more... how many barrel bands are on the fore stock?
This info will help to identify the arm.
My best,
Blair

Rim Fire,

Serial # 23040 may have been issued to Company G, 105 Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry in 1865.  23077 closest to your 23040 also issued to same unit as were about 15-20 listed all together including the 23077, Spencer Rifles.

Two Flints,

Were this SS# for a Rifle or a Carbine?

Two Flints,

Thanks,
I got a little homework to do.
I was not aware of any M-1860 Spencer Rifles being made with that high a SS# during the Civil War.

Many thanks two flints.  I believe the 2,000 rifles in this block (22,000-24,000) were issued originally to Mass. to fulfill a prior order that was diverted by the Gov.
