My almost sad ending to Thanksgiving, you can not make these things up guys!  One my old dogs has recently been diagnosed with probable spleen cancer but had yet to be showing any signs, other than on x-ray.  I decided that I would let him splurge for Thanksgiving this year and so withheld nothing from him.  By Friday evening he was unable to hold all of the turkey, dressing and gravy down any longer.  In short order we realised that he was in serious trouble and feared that rampant pain had started due to the cancer.  By lunch time Saturday I was at my wits end and started cutting some Oxycodone pills into slivers for him.  It was very late evening before they really kicked in and let him get some rest.  By sun up on Sunday he was bouncing off the walls with pain again and so this time I gave him a larger dose of the pain killer and he settled down soon after.  We seriously feared that Monday would bring about a really sad decision on our part but were at least glad that he did not have further problems after the pill wore off this time.

The happy part came when we took him to his vet on Monday morning and found out that to much Thanksgiving frivolity on his part had brought about a severe dose of pancreatitis, not good, but at least not a fatal thing and he has done well since.  I guess the moral of this story is, be careful not to love our little friends to death on Thanksgiving!
