I own 1 of the reproduction prototype 1865 Spencer Carbine, broke the cartridge guide. May be impossible to replace. So if I can get the replacement part, or not, I must retire this gun. So I will be looking at a replacement. I have decided to go with a Spencer Rifle in 56/50.

Good choice on the rifle!  I've handled originals in both rifle and carbine versions, and I really prefer the rifle.  It put a little of the weight out towards the muzzle instead of at the butt, so it doesn't seem to wave around as much.

I've got the rifle version .... quite appropriate for me as a Canadian since 2,000 of the approximately 3,000 Model 1865 Spencer rifles ever made ended up in Canada to help arm our Militia against the Fenian Raids (along with 2,100 carbines.)  Mine is in 56/50 -
