You don't need the power or expense of the oil burnerm agree with the 4.0, brother has one.  Of course everyone here knows I love in-line sixes.   ;D  Funny, the old man did also. ;)

My Dad had a couple of CJ7s back in the day. First one was great, almost un-stickable, bought used. Then he trades for a newer one, still not a bad vehicle, but never could get the carb to work just right, it was one of the "in between" models, trying to add electronics to a carburetor, and nobody could get that thing to idle. Years later, I had an Eagle about the same year, same problem. Sometimes it died, sometimes idles at 1500 rpm. If I'd kept driving it, I was going to throw away the electronic carb, and put one on from 5-10 years earlier, but other "orphan car" parts supply problems caused it to go out to the back 40, where it still resides today.

We used them for for pack animals and to supplement in the winter.  The dried beets caused them to drink water excessively.

That Eagle I had could have used that setup. Wasn't too peppy in it's natural form. I remember trying to pass a line of trucks on the interstate, came to a loooonnnggg hill, and then got stuck in the left lane unable to pass. Missed my exit cause I couldn't get over. Wasn't a happy driver...

Gotta love Spirit Week.  It's "Red & Black Day" at the Middle School. The Wife's properly attired.

Got the one-act play for this year's competition all cast & crewed as of yesterday. No rehearsals till Monday. They'll be three times a week at 06:30.

Had coffee & a bagel in the tub. Been enjoying these soaks in the tub, with or without bubbles.

You all have a good one.

Del
Gave your instructions a shot.  Worked fine! I will probably give the lining a bit of ironing to get more of the wrinkles out the next time it wants to come loose.  The leather conditioner on the hat band allowed me to get a better fit on my head (it had gotten a bit tight).

Del is a Master Hatter.

I thought it was Mad Hatter, using both meanings.  LOL ;D

Steam it a bit around the hat band and put it on warm and damp, let it cool and dry, will fit almost as good as a custom hat.  Takes me about a week at work before I will bring a new hat home and wear it around.

Going to try smelting iron next weekend, was at Shop-Co with Rita and they had the fancy rocks around the trees on the islands, found 4 pieces of hematite in the decorative rocks, grabbed them, carried them back to the Buick, course she wanted to know why I'd stole rocks from Shop-Co. ;D

Told her I was going to take our campfire to a new level, I was going to smelt iron, explained to her the Osage orange wood we use fet the center high enough to smelt and make bloomery iron, just need to go about 3-4 miles south to the other side of the terminal morass of the late Wisconsinan glacier to the exposed Precambrian limestone and get  3-4 hunks and break them up and put down a layer and cover my hematite (about 60-70% iron) with it and stoke it up and get the vents running good so the limestone flux removes the O2 and reduces it to a spongy mass which I'll grab with my tongs and hammer the impurities out leaving wrought iron behind.   ::)

Anyway I think I can do it, sure beats sitting in the trailer and watching TV, and I know we can get it hot enough.
