Lefty Dude

I bought mine in the bargain cave this past week, Glendale AZ. Cabelas . Paid 154.00 for the all steel frame 1851 Pietta.

It's on the bench, all apart for the Pettifogger inspection and make over.

Several Years ago I bought from brownells 8 sets of Ruger plungers & springs for the hand replacement. After the piece is ready, timed and tuned I will do the drill press frame mod.

I really like Piettas.  Yepper!!

Mine came today. It had a burr on the frame that was binding the hammer.Other than that it has the best lock up of all the cap and ball I own.(4 Piettas,1 Ubertie) Have not shot it yet.

Be sure and check the cylinder bolt notches, Pietta bolts are usually wide compared to the notch measurement. You can ruin a cylinder in short order. Follow Pettifogger's excellent tune up article in the "Darksiders Library".
The 51 I just bought, the bolt is wide for the cylinder notches.

Thanks for reminding me about the notches. There are no drag marks on the cylinder from me playing with it but I will check everything today.

After several Hours de-burring and honing parts, mine came out quite well. I shot the Pair of 36's this past Saturday and Sunday at Cowtowns Annual Match. No Cap sucks, or hang-ups, just nice and smooth.

After shooting the 36's, I must say, I do prefer them to the 44 1860's.

They do take some work to operate & function for competition. The effort is worth the final result.

this is awesome!  It's a bit of a drive to Glendale, but well worth it for a matched pair of Navies!  ;D

thanks for the head's up!

Labor day  2017 Cabela's had 51's in Steal frame on sale for 179.98
and if you paid with Cabela's card
You got a extra 25.00 off .
I bought too and had 88.00 in points .
