My carbine, chambered for the 44-40 cartridge, is finally working like I want it to.  First, a couple of coils had to be removed from the magazine spring.  Next, I got the trigger pull down to a manageable level.  Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I used some harder cast bullets.  The carbine does not like soft cast bullets.   It is a joy to shoot--I figured out a good rhythm and can make it run pretty fast.  The accuracy is excellent.
If you buy one of these and it doesn't work so great out of the box, just fiddle with it and be patient.  Soon she'll run like a thoroughbred.
