I saw this beautiful book mentioned way back when, when I joined. Bought a copy and it's my inspiration book. I'm building my first Texas Jockstrap style holster and have not been able to find a backside picture of the two centermost holsters on pages 124-125 of the book that will illustrate to me how the "jockstrap" fitment attaches to the backing of either holster. Do the legs of the "jockstrap" go through the backing or or they sewn or riveted to the backing of the holster?  I hope I have asked well enough to be clear. Thank you. Don

They're riveted.

Tandy's book on holster making shows this well.

I got to study and make a pattern of a holster very much like one of those in the book. It belonged to a collector at one of the big gun shows I regularly set up at and one of my customers wanted one made like it. On that particular holster the sides were sewn and riveted, the bottom loop just was riveted. I made a pattern of the original one and have made a few of those myself.

Here is a photo of one, it is stamped pretty much like the original except where my stamp is the original holster was marked H.A.Holtzer, Llano TX.

Thank you very much! I see the rivets on the other holster, but on the ones I was questioning the ends of the "strap" disappears behind the holster in the pictures. I couldn't tell if the ends were sewn or riveted on those. I have no rivets, so will either have to use Chicago screws or stitch them. Again, thank you. Don

DOn, either rivet or stitch will be fine. I am quessing that a time or two there was a holster maker that ran out of rivets. We promise not to look behind the holster. ;D

Cliff, that's outstanding. I really like this one. Very nice work.

Don, the one on p123 is sewn instead of riveted. Either way looks great.

Thanks Marshall, I couldn't find a factory made stamp like the pointy one so that is a home made one as close as I could manage to the original holster.

I still have that particular holster and it is for sale if anyone is interested PM me. Fits a 5 1/2 inch SAA, New Vaquero, Etc.
