Went to a team roping recently & was surprised to see that most of the hats worn by the competitors were some variation of this rediculous shape.

OK, that's not the Cool Hand Luke, that's the West Texas Punch or what most of them call it.  You can hook a team up to it and use it as a scraper box.

Willing to bet none of these guys has ever bee. To west Texas.  All the horse trailers on the place had nebraska license plates.

The real working cowboys were wearing hats like this.

This is an old friend of mine. He was a cowboy when we were younger,  now he prefers to be called a "cattleman".

River City John

I've seen that style before. Seems to me the Coroner of Munchkin City wore that style. I've heard it called "The Shovel".

The infamous  "Butt Crack" style.

May have been used to pattern a shotgun. ;D

Either of 'em wearin' a booney? Gettin' kinda partial ta mine. Next spring I'll get a khaki. Black one can get a bit warm.

Kinda liked Roo's shootin' hat. Looked like a workin' hat.

All I did was name it 'n get it started. The posse made it great. A debt I can never repay. Thank you, mi amigos.

Doesn't look like any of he butt cracks I'm familiar with. Think if I was going to put one on my head if call it something else.

John, I thought the Munchin Mayor wore a top hat.

Nope Arcey, I was the only one there wearing a boonie.  Mines kind of a grey color.  I wear it with what you'd call "the uniform" 'cept without the crocks.

Delmonico

"merican Hats is what most of them wear in the straw type, can order the basic hat shaped how you want.

Course if they buy an unshaped one it hurts my eyes to shape it.   ::)

Out in the sun or rain, I like my 5" plantation style straw palm leaf, know a few working cowboys wear them working.

Makes me dizzy just looking at it.

I don't understand why someone would ruin a functional hat like yours by bending it up so it won't shade his ears. If I wanted a sunburn I wouldn't waste money on a hat.

Delmonico

Been goin' on a long time, often even the working ones have a whole different look when rodeoin'.

HI,

I have found the hat that I wear daily at Sun Body (http://www.sunbody.com/).

Sun Body has very good hats made out of Palm in Guatemala ... from little pork pies to on even bigger then mine called the "EL Humongo" (and it is; more of a Sombero [made me think of Robert Mitchum in THE WONDERFUL COUNTRY]).

TTFN,
My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...

The Sun Body Palm are enexpensive and durable. The infamous "Taco" crease was left out. I am sorta partial to the George Strait crease.

A lot of the horse show people are going to a square version of this and a lot of the Hispanics are having me lower their tacos so that people don't think they are horse show people.   ;D

True story a couple of them have told me that.

Straw hats are a must in the summertime. I use them to keep my bald head from getting sunburned.
