The Great Lightning Rod Question

So, there is a debate within SASS as to whether the lightning rod is legal or not and the TG's will vote on it at the convention.  That is all fine and good.  But my question is what does it do?  I know it is supposed to make the hammer easier to cock.  But how.  I guess I don't get how a little roller will help that.

Not questioning whether the LR should be legal, but I am questioning what makes it work.

Thanks

WIth the regular parts, the firing pin extension rubs against the hammer as it is being cocked.  So you have sliding friction.

With the Lightning Rod with it's little roller on the end, the roller is rolling while it meets the hammer, so you have only rolling friction.  I haven't tried one, but I can see where the friction could be quite a bit less.  But I'm not sure that I would notice much difference - after the beeper goes off - :D :D
I'd have to try one to be sure.

Thanks,

And I believe I agree with your assesment at least until I see one.

Thanks for the link, Rio. I was wondering what the thing was like. This is the first I've heard about it.

I do not think it will shorten your time, but look at the loss of sliding friction over hundreds of rounds.  Reduced wear shoyuld be the resultant.

That's what I was thinking. I like having my shootin' irons last.

Now I am confussed..What I read was they will vote on parts that are visiable externally not internally....Are they not? How would the lightning rod be external.

Have to agree with Will's thoughts, about having my guns last. This is not my rabbit gun that may or maynot get used this year. This may help a gun I use monthly.
