Hear tell when the folks there managed ta get a post office authorized, they couldn't agree onna name for the place. Postal inspector got tired of the on going debate 'n named it hisownself – Disputanta.

According to Wikipedia, the answer is not that different.  This is the version I heard:
Popular legend has it that William Mahone (1826–1895), builder of the Norfolk and Petersburg Railroad, and his cultured wife, Otelia Butler Mahone (1837–1911), traveled along the newly completed Norfolk and Petersburg Railroad naming stations. Otelia was reading Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott. From his historical Scottish novels, Otelia chose the place names of Wakefield as well as Windsor and Waverly. She tapped the Scottish Clan "McIvor" for the name of Ivor, a small town in neighboring Southampton County.

As they continued west, they reached a station just west of the Sussex County line in Prince George County where they could not agree on a suitable name from the books. Instead, they became creative, and invented a new name in honor of their dispute. This is how the tiny community of Disputanta was named.

Thought it was some sorta spoof at first – then I lost it, M2. Happy I weren't drivin'. Mighta run over a Smart Car.

The post office story comes from Hagermann's research, SB. However, he did credit Mahone's wife with Zuni 'n the others along 460 east of the range.

I wonder if Sir Walter wrote of radar traps in the novel Waverly. Never read it myownself.

Hagermann's book is interesting. It does say it's the 'story' of place names rather than the history. My copy is about shot. I'd like to have another for the grands but the last time I looked it was out of print.

Happy Anniversary Slim.

Well my Mom has spent the whole week in the hospital took her in for shortness of breath afraid she was having another heart attack. Turned out she had rapid heartbeat ( call A-Fib or Atrial Fibrillation). They resolved that with meds by this morning and then she had an abnormal EKG and they were worried that she had another blockage or might be having another heart attack. A heart catheterization was performed and it turned out to be stress induced chest pains, again meds will resolve the issue. She should finally be able to go home tomorrow.
If ya can't be fast it's good to be Lucky!

The Trinity Kid

I'll put on some refreshments for the night owls.

Not a whole lot going on here.  The fire to the south is still growing.  little over half contained now.

I've got a couple of dilemmas at the moment.  The first is whether or not I should join the junior fire department here in town.  I'm not sure if I will or not, but am leaning towards "am."

Second:  Mosin 91/30, or Trans Am?  I'm not sure if I want to just go ahead and buy the rifle, or if I want to save 2500 more greenbacks and get a Trans Am...  Of the joys of the teenage years, eh?

If that's 'er given instead of chosen name, Roo, I reckon 'er folks either had a sense of humor or they had thoughts of her bein' an artist, performin' in movies sent discreetly to your home inna plain brown wrapper.

Pictures of her kinda sorta practicin' for that surfaced on the web durin' 'er congressional run a few years ago up in the occupied north of this once great commonwealth. Kinda wonder why she didn't win. Airheads seem ta attract democrats of equal intellect – see Pelosi; Boxer; Norton; et al.
