If the length of pull is too long fer ya then the stock should be taked down the right amount from the end of the butt stock.

The butt plate needs moved forward to accomodate the length of pull you need. The butt plate would get a lil taken off the bottom end in the process.

You may find a stock making facility that would make you a slightly shorter one. Maybe TreeBone Stocks. Any gunsmith could do it but of course any one of those could mess up the job too. Pick a gunsmith type that works with wood. Not all gunsmiths like to work wood.

The muzzleloader rifle fraternity would be a good place to inquire.Plenty of the rifle makers that do muzzleloaders could shorten yer stock.

They could explain how to determine length of pull fer a person. Shotgun people know that stuff fer sure.

Standard is the 14 inch length of pull fer factory guns. If you can reach the trigger to fire the gun comfortably then you should be able to lever the gun.

The trigger hard to reach also?

Way back in the day when it was muzzleloaders with heavy long barrels the 12 inch length of pull was a lil more popular.

My wife has a squirrel rifle in 32 caliber that has a length of pull to fit her that's about 11 inches. Length of pull being correct fer a person is important.

A place on the net called "American Longrifles" is a good place to ask around. Rifle builders can do a stock shortening fer yas.

If your butt plate is a steel cresent shortening it is a LOT of work.  The stock has to be cut the fit the curve in the buttplate and then the butt plate has to be ground down since it will be to big once the stock is cut.  It would be easier to cut the stock and then install a flat rubber or plastic butt plate or recoil pad.

It's a carbine, steel cresent EMF Hartford 45,i think the LOP is ok it just i have short arms and stubby finger and i can keep it shouldered and lever it all the way,it has a large loop but the original was the same also, have to really stretch them fingers to lever at a faster rate of speed..

It's just like this one with a large loop..

GCR, if you are using the back of your fingers to push the loop lever down and out, that loop adds another 3"s or more to be able to do that. Cool but ain't fast :).

Yep your right, but the same way with the original one too,but hey gotta be cool  ;D And the original lever was a bit stiff, but when i put the big loop on it ,it was slick as hot chicken fat on a stuck door knob~Why i don't know? I have had it for at least five years and only put one load of shells through it.Gas went up,ammo went up,not a real close place around here to shoot, and started babysittin my grand duaghter, they are in Texas now and i will have more time and money as soon as i get over bein a sad grandpa :'(

How 'bout me and Curley come over and stretch yer arms a mite?

Well if i do as you say the fist notch in my finger is right at the trigger, but feels more comfortable on the meat of the finger. As far as trigger i think i'm ok,it just levering i have to stretch a bit to keep it shouldered.

The stock is right at 13 3/4s from the center of the crescent.

Ya know the original stock that was on it i took off and had Harey Carey Jr. sign it on both sides and it did have a very small hairline crack about 2 inches long,i asked if it would cuase any problems down the road but was not overly concerned about it,a couple days later a new stock was at my door at no cost,so i took the original down south when they made Hareys dads place into a museum and Jr. was there for the grand opening,i never even used the original stock,i will measure that one.

Part of your problem in getting the lever all the way forward is that large loop lever.  They look cool but slow you down considerably if you are using the gun for competition.

GunClick Rick

No i don't compete, tried but fuel prices and family stuff kept me from, just didn't make it a priority...So i shoot when i can..
