I just finished up a special Hawken rifle for a friend in Alaska.  I thought some of you might enjoy a look-see....It's a .62 cal with a tapered 34" x 1 1/8" - 1" Coleraine barrel.  The barrel, tang and diopter sight are rust blued, the furniture pack hardened, and the maple stock finished with Ferric Nitrate stain and beeswax for finish.  Here's a few pics:

Major 2

Boy oh boy,  do I like that !

It looks exactly like my gun............................... would like to look !

Perhaps in 58 cal. and no rear tang sight .... stuff dreams are made of  :)
when planets align...do the deal !

One word....WOW!

I'd like to have that exact stock with a Trap-Door action in 45-70

Could it be done?

Looks great Gabriel. Nice work on that. I always loved the larger 20g Yeager calibers.

I can't see why not...The Hawken/Gemmer shop restocked several military rifles in the years leading up to the War Between the States.  I Hawkenized a rifle years ago for Sir Charles Mouton/Black...can't remember what the action was though?  Makes one wonder how he can forget such an important build!  Sorry Sir Charles...

And thanks everyone for the kind words.

It just came to me...it was a Sharps....wow, I'm not losing it afterall - much.

It was a Pedersoli Sharps.  We kept the barrel & action, adding Hawken stock, funiture and wiping rod.  I love it!

That is indeed a lovely rifle! Your attention to detail is great even down to the copper base for the front sight. Years a go I built a Gemmer on a Shiloh Sharps in 54 calibre percussion. It shot well and got a lot of attention.
Little powder much lead shoots far kills dead.

Gabriel Law has other talents. I have seen jewelry, leatherwork, powder horns and anything that requires fine craftsmanship. He also fitted most of my cap'nball pistols with dovetail sights.

He is also one of the finest off-hand rifle shots I have seen. His standing groups look much like my bench shooting! Also a natural with 'hawk & knife.

These Gemmer type altered breech loading Rifles and repeaters like the Spencer's has always been a favorite of mine.
It is a blending of the old with the new that, for me, just seems timeless.
I thank you all for sharing this info and your photos.
