Is the Aluminium Carrier a drop-in replacement?

Hi Pards,

In my next step in the DIY modificaiton of my Uberti 1873 I am looking at installing the Aluminium Carrier (probably from Longhunter). I have already installed the PGW Action Springs, Smith Shop Light Duty Mainspring and Coiled Safety Spring, PGW front Speed Sight, and flat top rear sight. I have also lightly polished the the carrier lever.

Is the Aluminium Carrier a drop-in replacement or is there fitting/timing modifications required? I've read several responses in other threads about the carrier requiring timing adjustments but then other responses say it's a drop-in.

FWIW the Aluminium Carrier from Longhunter comes in 2 sizes, one for small  and for large calibers.

Also, does the Aluminium Carrier make a noticeable difference? At the moment with the work I've done  now the action is quite smooth and quite light to work.

Cheers.

Yes, one of the few actual "drop-in" parts.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Do you think it makes a difference?

Is it smoother/lighter to cycle the action? I know in another thread you said you've had it for 10 or so years so I guess it works for you.

Tornado

You are tempting me to install one of these next. :)

It's a matter of personal preference.  A lot of people like the brass carriers.  I can feel the difference in levering with the aluminum carrier.  I put a skeletonized brass carrier back in my rifle for a while and did not like the heavier feel.

Well I think you've sold me on it.

Does anyone how many manufacturers there are for the Aluminium Carriers? Does Longhunter make his own or does he order them from someone else?

As far as I know there are only two.  C&I and Pioneer.
