Morning y'all.
Thanks fer the coffee, Tex.

Gonna be leaving soon. Stopping at my uncles on the way to see the new filly.

'75 and partly sunny. "Mostly cloudy. A chance of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning...then showers likely and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs around 80. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent."

I always enjoy the bagpipes, They remind me of my Scottish heritage. I am reminded of my Dad's service in WW2. I am also reminded of the friends that I lost in the VietNam war.

Don't have ability to suppress the feelings.

Arcey & L'Roo,

I thank you both for your sharing on this Memorial Day.

TLD,

My Scottish ancestry is pretty close. My Dad was born in Scotland. Naturalized at about the age o 2 with his Mom and Dad.
Dad served in WWII, Korea and Viet Nam.
I too love Bagpipes! but Amazing Grace is something I have trouble with. Along with Taps

If you have a heart and soul you can't hold them back, it is meant to be moving. As is Amazing Grace on the bagpipes. Dad served in WWII, Father - in - Law served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

Blair no need to thank me. I'd serve again if i was allowed.

I first moved here a few weeks ago i took a drive over this mountain road. That i now drive daily to work. On the switch back there is a small turnout. I noticed the first time the small flag a top the fence post. Ironically a  tornado past thru there the week before leaving a swath of damage 1/2 mile wide and 10 miles along. Yet this post was unharmed.
I look out across the valley dotted with farms and a few homes and think about the blood that was shed right here on these lands by Patriots. Our forefathers. Fighting for their freedom.  It wasn't just the battles and wars in foriegn countrys. The ones on this land that we build our homes and families futures. We need to make sure our children and grandchildren understand the importance of this day.

The rain has stopped and the humidity has arrived. I think we will go out and eat BBQ tonight. I did not eat lunch, so I will be good and hungry for the BBQ.

The Trinity Kid

Good afternoon y'all.

This morning I didn't make it to the services at the cemetery...  flyer said 11, not 1.  That actually really bothers me. >:( :-\

Did go out an burn some powder today.  Shot a 12ga for the first time...  One would think that, since I've been shooting since age 3, I'd have shot a 12 gauge by now, but... never got the chance.

Other news:  there was a plane crash at the airport today.  I heard it from a mile away, through my earplugs, and over my Navy Colt...  hope the pilot was okay. :-\

Went to a local small town Memorial Day observance today.  Nope couldn't avoid getting a bit choked up when the rifle salute and taps were sounded. No bagpipes though. Of course, for the kids it was more the surprise at the rifle salute than any patriotic feelings at their age(we were only about 50 feet from the VFW rifle squad).

Focus of the speaker at the event was WW1, since it's the hundredth anniversary beginning this year. As far as I know, no relatives were in that Grandpa was just barely old enough when it ended. All dad's brothers were in the Navy in WW2, but he was the baby of the family, so he served in the early 50's in the navy. Yep, Arcey He was at Norfolk when he wasn't at sea, couple of European cruises on an escort carrier.

Do have a few ancestors that were in the Civil War, mostly in Missouri volunteer units, all Union. Don't know of any Confederates, but there might be some.

Arcey

And, thank you, Blair.

Well written, Roo. Amen.

PE, I'm kinda a product of Norfolk because of the WWI. Half the family settled there when they left the Navy after WWI. Almost hate to admit I have Maryland blood in me. But they were raised in a different time.
