Just bought a new Uberti 51 Navy. Didn't even try to shoot it yet before taking care of the usual issues. Anyway, tried to remove the nipples. Four came out easy. Two were in there pretty good. After several days of soaking in Liquid Wrench, one of them finally came out. The other went back to alternating between heat/more Penetrating fluid. After ruining four nipple wrenches and a weeks effort, I remembered someone mentioning altering a 1/4 drive deep well socket to fit. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I found a 3/16 deep well fit pretty good and seemed to fit a 62 Pocket Navy as well which has the same nipple but slightly less clearance. About an hour with a Dremel cut-off wheel and files I got a nice fit over a standard Uberti nipple shoulder. Didn't even put it in a vice and the darn thing came right out. Was a little annoyed I had to go to such lenghts for a new gun, but there it is. I have one pretty good nipple wrench left but I'm not buying any more. The 1/4 drive, 3/16 Craftsman deep well socket in my new nipple wrench. Problem is, I better make a few more as if any of the scoundrels I shoot with see this, mine might go missing!!!   Navy Six

Virtually all of the common commercially available nipple wrenches are junk.  I've made some out of grade 8 bolts that I have turned and put in handles so they look like a normal T handle nipple wrench and they are pretty darn tough.  I have also milled slots in sockets and they aren't bad either.  The best commercial nipple wrench is down around number 6 here.

Scroll down until you get to the ratcheting revolver nipple wrench.  That one is pretty good.  Once you break them lose with a good wrench, then you can use the el cheapo commercial ones.  Just make sure you put anti-seize on your nipples each time you remove them.

Thanks Pettifogger. I've seen those nipple wrenches before and was meaning to try one. Will do so now since you recommend them.
