Going through the manuals and seeing what is on this site.  I'm still confused about classes.  Can anybody make this a little simpler?

If I understand the question you would need to define, SASS or NCOWS.
When guns are banned, fear the man with a hammer

SASS,

The shooters g(guide talks about different age groups, using different types of shooting etc..  Duelist, single handed and dual handed?  Etc.

Howdy mikie66 and welcome. First we have no classes.........they are categories. Check out the header for each category to figure out the shooting style, firearm, and for Black Powder the propellant. The best way to understand them is start going to as many local matches as you can find. Call the MD and let them know you are coming.
The age based categories can use any mian match revolver, adjustable or fixed sights. And they can be shoot any style except Gunfighter. All of the aged based shooters I've ever scene shoot two handed. May use any SASS shotgun or rifle. May use any ammo, (smokeless or BP) I've never known anyone that shoots BP in these categories. So basically it's two-handed, any SASS legal gun, smokeless.

AGE BASED
• Any Main Match revolver (adjustable sights are allowed).
• Revolvers may be shot any style except Gunfighter.
• May use any SASS–legal main match shotgun and any main match rifle.
• May use any SASS–legal ammunition.

Duelist is basically fixed sight revolver (unless your Senior Duelist, then you can use either adjustable or fixed) one handed shooting, any SASS long gun, smokeless.
DUELIST
• Any Main Match fixed sight model revolver.
• Only Duelist Style or Double Duelist Style may be used.
• At no time shall the competitor have two loaded revolvers in hand at once.
• May use any SASS–legal main match shotgun and any main match rifle.
• May use any SASS–legal ammunition.

GF is both revolvers in hand at the same time, alternating shots, smokeless. Read all the bullet points for more info.
GUNFIGHTER
• Any Main Match fixed sight model revolver.
• Only Gunfighter Style or Double Duelist Style may be used.
• "Gunfighter Style" is defined as shooting with a revolver in
• May use any SASS–legal main match shotgun and any legal main match rifle.
• May use any SASS–legal ammunition.
• Two standard holsters are required, one on each side. No cross-draw or "butt forward"
configurations are allowed.[/

For Black Powder and the two costume categories read all the bullet points and definitions for more details.
Frontier Cartridge is two-hand....Frontier Cartridge Duelist is one handed.......Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter is Gunfighter. ;D
BLACKPOWDER CATEGORIES
FRONTIER CARTRIDGE
• Any Main Match fixed sight model revolver.
• Revolvers may be shot two handed or one handed (duelist style).
• Must use blackpowder in all loads (rifle, revolver, and shotgun).
• Must use a side-by-side, single shot or lever action shotgun in the main match stages.
• Any SASS–legal pistol caliber rifle is acceptable.
• Frontier Cartridge Duelist is also recognized with all requirements being the same except
the Duelist and Double Duelist shooting styles are used. See Duelist description for the
required shooting technique(s).

Frontiersman is BP cap & ball with shooting style (Duelist) and firearm restrictions.........see bullet points and definitions

Classic Cowboy is costume, caliber, shooting stle (Duelist) and firearm restricted........see bullet points and definitions

B-Western (may be shoot any style) is costume, and firearm restricted........see bullet points and definitions.

Looks like I'll be going senior classic cowboy.  I have the external hammer shotguns and love the 45C with 255Gr lead.

Thanks for the help.
