Unless you post photo's this was said for no reason other than to rub it in. I wish I could get a tour of it enjoy the day

Got almost all the way there before I remembered that I had NOT remembered the camera, but my daughter will be send some along in a day or so.

Both the Reagan (CVN76) and the Carl Vincent (CVN 70( are at North Island for upgrades.  Skeleton ship's crew (about 400 people total) and no air crews aboard.  One stripped down F/A 16 on each ship to use for fire fighting practice and no other aircraft.  The only weapons and ammo are small arms for the security people.

I was on the Midway last summer, but ti's a floating museum now.  The only other active duty carrier I was on was the Enterprise in 1966 in Virginia.

The Reagan isn't a big once you're aboard as it seems when you're on the dock, but it's still bigger than some towns I've lived in... at least population-wise when everyone is aboard.  Runs almost 6,000 people.

Had three young security types show us around.  Personable, knowledgeable, squared away.  We started on the hanger deck and went up eight decks and back down.  The outstanding thing to me was on the command bridge where we were met by a 21 year old female quartermaster finishing her first tour.  (I never did understand Navy ratings), maybe 5'5" and cuter than a puppy.  She looked like someone's high school prom date.

SHE DRIVES THE SHIP IN PORT AND IN ANY CLOSE-QUARTERS OPERATIONS WHILE UNDER WAY!  (She says that on the open sea with nothing to run into anyone can drive it. ;D)

She said they assigned her and the third day aboard she reported to the bridge and after a half hour the Captain said "Okay, Lewis, take us out".

She was startled and frightened and told the captain that she had never even been on a bridge before.  The Captain told her that it was okay, if she hit anything they had insurance.  She also said that after that morning NOTHING scares her any more.

Good girl, good boss, never had anything that expensive to deal with but that's what I do.

Left the kid I'm training with a almost $400 hat I was watching him shape a while back, went potty and linger a while in the work dept.  Worked out fine, probably better than breathing down his neck and it came out fine and if he wet his pants it didn't show.

Moose took Victoria back to the Park this morning. The temp is down to 25 and we are under a winter storm watch till 2100 tonight. We have had some sleet and a dusting of snow. I am ready for Spring to get here. We always get some nasty weather in March.

Slept WAY late this morning, got up feeling pretty crappy, too :P Still ended up shoveling about 2" and the build up from the plow at the end of the drive. Luckily, it wasan't too heavy/wet. 19 herfe,WC 4. Do have some sun. The storm watch petered out, didn't get as bad here as they were thinking. Probably stayed farther south than they were predicting :P

I realizes that we have girls the same age around here I wouldn't trust with their Daddy"s Prius and here's a kid steering billions of dollars and thousand of lives around like it's the easiest, most natural thing in the world.

Restores some of my faith in the younger generations.

A tropical good mornin' ta y'all.

Lower end of forty sumthin' 'n that'll be 'bout it. Rain likely before 1000 hours, then sleet between then 'n 1600 hours then snow and sleet after that. Temperature falling to around 25°. Breezy, with a north wind 16 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. High wuz 71° yestitty.

It ain't precipitatin' yet. Skrool's 'bot woke e'erybody up 'bout quarter past five, tolt 'em their services weren't needed taday 'n go back ta bed. Lovely............

Amazin' what them boys in Newport News can do with a bunch of steel. Make a movin' object that big 'n heavy easy ta handle. Seen days when I questioned whether er not I'd ever get a chunk of fiberglass 'bout 1,050 ft. shorter'n that back in the slip without damagin' both.

Happy ta hear ya had a good time, Forty.

Any questions as ta why we're stuck with O'Bama?

Nope. It's pretty obvious whenever you talk to members of the electorate.

Still not ringing any bells.

Just went ou to start the pickup. It's cold. Wind chill is nasty.

Battery's dead in my remote thermometer. The interweb says it's 7 & feels like -8. Feels colder than that to me. Hope it hits the 44 they're predicting for today.

Got in trouble yesterday,,,,,,,,,,,,, again, wife was foing to go to a meeting to plan their 40th HS reunion, she mentioned the golfers always had a turnny-mint for that.  I decided they needed more things for the rest, suggested seeing if they could find a pre-73 car and have a "See How Fast You Can Un-lock It With a Coat-Hanger and Hot-Wire It Contest."  Also suggested getting a big can of oregano at Sam's and some Zig-Zags and have a doobie rolling contest.  I decided the "Can You Buy Beer With Out Being Carded" one would be to easy now.   ;D

I hate it when she just stares at me in dis-belief, you'd think she expect those ideas by now. ::)

No School for Moose today. It got down to 18 last night, and it has not gotten above freezing all day. Beef stew and cornbread for supper tonight. The weather will be cold and dreary for most of the week, I don't think that Spring can get here too soon for me.
