The NSSA has added a Spencer only competition at their twice annual shoots in Winchester , Va range.  The Spencer shooters
were having to compete against the Henry's and were at a disadvantage due to the greater magazine capacity of the Henry
along with the fact the Henry cocked the hammer with the lever throw. The new competition should be a lot of gun for
those of us in the NSSA.

Yes, the N-SSA has realized shooting the Spencer is more fun the playing with Henry's.  I hope that this will create more interested in Spencer.  There are a lot of N-SSA members who have Spencer, but have not been shooting them because there is no way a Spencer can compete with some of the Henry Teams.  After many years the N-SSA will have a seperate division for team competition  (4 man teams)

What is the N-SSA?

Roy B --The North South Skirmish Assn holds competitive shoots with the firearms of the Civil War in
both team competition and individuals. The firarms are split by category such as rifled musket, percussion carbine,
cap and ball revolver, Etc. For those who like the really big bores they even target shoot with cannon. Unlike
reenactors they shoot live ammo. In team competition the goal is to break their set of targets in the shortest
time possible. It's a lot of fun and you are shooting with people who love these old guns.
Details of what they do can be found at n-ssa.org including a short video.

treebeard,

Thank you.

The N-SSA formed or started in 1950. They are the first BP shooting organization in the US, and, much to the despair of most re-enactors today, the very beginning of non- Official Military related ACW reenacting.
Late in the 1950's ,it was N-SSA members that went to Italy looking to get reproduction US Military arms copied.
Good, bad or indifferent, it is these arms that involve into modern reproduction that Cowboy action shooting arms become available to us today.
My best,
