My next rifle will probably be above said model.  But what caliber?  I definately want it a big bore.  (no .38 or .357 mag).  But what are the pros and cons of each.  Can't a .45 LC match or outperform the .44 Mag in such a gun?  My old style handguns are .45 LC.  (Uberti Schofield and Ruger New Vaquero).  Which one is more accurate?  Neither is really period correct as LC wasn't offered in rifles and Mag didn't come along until 1955.   The LC can take tame CA loads but then the Mag can do .44 special

Mine is a .44 because I was  big .44 mag fan long before I ever heard of CAS.  If your handguns are .45 I'd stick with that caliber for the rifle too. Not only is it easier to reload one than two, those cartridges are close enough to the same size it would be easy to accidentally load .44s in your .45.

In a modern pistol for hunting deer, the .44 is a terrific choice, but in a rifle platform I think the .45 gets the nod.  There are a wide variety of bullets made for it, components easy to acquire, a greater variety of casting moulds, and greater case capacity which, as you noted, allows it to potentially outperform the .44 mag.  Most importantly, the .44 is really just a .43, but the .45 is a .45, and hey, that is cool.

The 92 takes a great deal of pressure, look up high powered .45 colt loads in rifles and compare those to the .44 mag and that may help you decide.  You should not get to or exceed the .44 magnum pressures though, cases for the .44 are built for higher pressures so you don't want to get too insane with standard .45 cases, but it is obvious you can push them very, very hard.

Considering that your pistols are .45s, I think that makes it easy to choose.  Be careful to segregate your CAS ammo from your heavy deer hunting ammo though.

44 WCF would be my first chose, I have had two 44mags and they shot well.
I personly dont like 45 LC in any lever gun.

^ I thought of the 44-40 (WCF).  While it's historically accurate, big bore the problem is t 1) it's not that widely available, 2) isn't as versatile, 3) would mean getting an extra set of reloading die and equipment (I already have die for the .44 Mag and .45 LC)

You won't be unhappy with either one is my bet.

If I was going to just hunt with it I would choose the 44 mag since I regularly carry a 44mag revolver when hunting. If I was also going to use it for CAS I would lean toward the 45 since none of my CAS pistols are 44mag.

Pros and Cons of those two calibers come down to each will pretty much do what the other will do in most situations so I would think it comes down to personal preference.
