Hi Y'all.  Has anyone ever had any dealings with Kentucky Leatherworks?  I'm thinking about maybe buying one of their 15lb rolls of leather, but...  How's price/quality?  would it be worth it to buy for learning on?

I'm not familiar with them, so I looked at the website.

$40 for 13# to 15# chrome tan roll .... what your getting mostly will be off cut and scrap.

I'd advise no, if you're planing holsters, you will want Vegetable Tan.

Chrome Tan or Alum tan is not very well suited for holsters.
when planets align...do the deal !

How about just learning to tool leather, or make little pouches etc.?  I don't know spit about leather work, so I don't want to spend $150 for something, and then ruin it... :-\

For tooling leather you want veg tan.

If you just want to learn, . . . need some scrap leather, . . . send me an address to ciminod@midohio.net, . . . I run a holster shop, I can send you some samples, and cut off pieces, . . . you can get your feet wet with them.

And there won't be any charge, . . .

May God bless,

I learned a lot from cutting, patterning and sewing with leather from those cheap bundles.  As previous posters have mentioned, it's not for pistol holsters, but I have made pouches, straps, belts, bags and shoes from this stuff in the past. Don't totally discount it as a source of leather and a source for learning.

Chrome tan leather can be used for money belts, and has been years ago, but it's not suited for holsters, too soft and pliable and won't hold a shape at all.... STAY WITH VEG TAN   ;D one other thing, Chrome tan is not meant to touch metal or brass... :o
