Anyone out there tried to deal with Shilo Rifle lately? I tried to sign up for their forum and order a Cartridge belt 45/70 from them. Unfortunately, I live in Canada and their computer cannot figure out that Alberta is a province of Canada. Got ignored about the forum for over a month, just waiting for approval. Wrote an email about my problems 5 days ago, got a reply yesterday. Called and got the forum part cleared up; after a long time, could not get the ordering part straightened out. Called today to try and order by phone.....got b_____d out by Phylis, for "bothering" them. Anyone else out there had this problem, lately? Are their rifles that much better that I should put up with their attitude?

Cheers!

I've had a few issues with people on the Shiloh forum, but my dealings with the company have always been good.

When I ordered my 50-70 carbine, I specified a 24" barrel and better than average wood and I got what I wanted. But - the length of pull had been changed over the years and the stock was 3/4:" too long even wearing a T-shirt.
It went back in the box unfired, shipped back to them which meant another export/import fee through a Canadian dealer. I was charged for the alteration. In the end, I got what I wanted, but now have a very expensive carbine.

A friend has several Pedersoli rifles  - a Lightning, a Gemmer Sharps, a Rolling Block, etc. and the quality is much improved over what they used to be.

Would I place an order for another Shiloh? No, I don't think so. I've got five other Shiloh rifles (I bought them used) so unless money was no object, I could live without another.

I've not heard of anyone having a bad experience when dealing directly with the folks at Shiloh, but everyone's entitled to have a bad day.  Perhaps the person you spoke to was having one.  I've personally called them a number of times and was always treated with courtesy and respect.  I'd give them a second chance before writing them off.

Given the number of folks from Alberta and other provinces that are on the Shiloh forum, shoot Shiloh rifles etc. I would say that your web problem is likely something to do with them working on the company side to get the thing updated...
As to the supposed problem with Phyllis, I stand by what I said on the other thread, identical to this one.
And add that there may be a little bit of pity party going on, considering the sniveling going on on the cartridge belt thread. ::)

The problem with threads like this is that we only have one mans story.   I don't think you can go wrong with either a Shiloh Sharpes or a C-Sharps rifle.

Fair enough, thanks Pards! This was a first time experience and I just wanted to know. This incident was obviously a rare occurrence and not the rule. I may even give them another try one day, then. Thanks agin!

Cheers!

PS. I'm gitten a great belt made by someone who answered my question on the Leather thread. No pity party, sir's.

Phyllis can come across a little sharp, but it's more just being ornery.
Just a few minutes ago the phone rang, and ID said it's Shiloh Rifle, which I figured was coming because some work I had them do on one of my rifles was done and I expected to get the all about shipping etc.
Hi, this is Baly... Kirk has your rifle done and we're ready to ship, just need to verify the address and credit card.
Ok
And Phyllis says next time you need to clean your rifle better before you send it up.
Oh she does does she? Well you tell her the next time she decides to take a rifle out jacklighting antelope to be sure and pick some elses cuz I don't like all that smokeless powder she uses... :D  Because I know my rifle was clean when I sent it up there. :P

And before I sent that rifle up there was this call
Hello Shiloh Rifle , this is Phyllis
Hi Phyllis how are you today.
What the hell are you doing calling me on the phone, don't you know I'm busy
Well that's not what all the folks in the shop said...I'm getting ready to send you this rifle for the chamber work and scope mounts, do you want it UPS or USPS
UPS, they come to the door. If something comes to the post office one of us girls has to drag the damned heavy thing back from down there, and then we keep the rifle till the owner comes to pick it up, and then we beat him half to death with it....

:D So it goes, if a person wants to get their feelings hurt, it sure easy enough to do, but if you're quick enough on your feet to hand it right back you'll find out in a moment it's all just good fun.
You're dealing with an old ranch woman and you best be ready to cowboy up, if she's feeling on the ornery side..

Ranch 13,

Great reply.
That is kind of like the dealings I have had with Shiloh. However, that was many years ago. (interesting story for those that want to hear it?)
My best,

Lucinda will demand a ransom over and above the cost of what ever you get...  :o But a box of M&M's mailed to her a few days in advance will take care of most of it. ;D

Blair hang in there.

For the kind of money being spent, a stellar attitude is expected.

I am not cheap, but I can be had. If I present a crappy attitude to a customer that brings in his $60,000 pick-up for repairs, I wouldn't get to keep my job, or at least no repeat business.

I'm sorry. As the customer I expect the same as I give. It's "yes Sir" or "Ma'am", "what can I do for you?"

Customer service in this great nation of ours is at an all time low. You earn business with great service.

Your right ...
there was a time when, as the quote stated "A Customer is never wrong "

Rule #1: The customer is always right!

Rule #2: If the customer is wrong, re-read rule #1.

These days problem is ...

Rude, demanding,  angry, unreasonable, down right elitist nasty behavior is at all time high both from the Customer and from the vendor or employee.

Some places its service with a smile, and spit or worst in their food.  ::)

when planets align...do the deal !

Anybody that thinks Shiloh's customer service is bad is either stupid, or had a very bad experience probably brought on by their own ingnorant behavior.

Hanging around the Shiloh Forum and reading the rifle owners posts since 2005 - zero complaints about customer service.
My only complaint - when the forum was up data in 2010 by Shiloh, all the search capability since 2002 for threads was not carried forward.  HUNDREDS of excellent reference threads - Lost!
