Howdy CassCity,

Ive got a bud that recently seen in Cabella's a 1851 Pietta in 44.  He loves the pistol and look of an 1851 and the idea it's in a beefier cal'

He likes my MWNN, so now is curious if a Krist conversion, is a good fit in this 44.  I see they sell them but have yet to find little info on anyone who has done this with their 44 1851's.    Think he likes the idea, of going back and forth - Percussion to cartridge.

Now in the first place I'm sure it has to be a steel frame, but I'm unsure if they sell these in both steel and brass...?

 Any help gents, thanks.

The "replica of a gun that never was" .44 navy, uses the same conversion as an 1860 army. Be sure to get the steel frame, I think they make both steel and brass in these.

Plus one to Pony Express.
The .44 Navy from Pietta is actually an 1860 frame with an octagonal barrel.  Ergo, either a Kirst or R&D for the 1860 will work just fine.  One should specify the conversion is for Pietta.
If the intent, form the get-go is to run the gun as a conversion  avoid the really pretty brass frame.  Brass frames don't play well with heavier loads.

If you go the gated route, just be sure to get the 1851 ejector.  ;)

All of the above and please realize that these are chambered jn 45 Schofield and that 45 "Cowboy" (with flat round nose profile) will fit. There is no 44 caliber chambering available from either maker.
