Well, after a year of living with my pair of SS .45 NV 4.6" from Longhunter, I'm pretty happy with my choice.  My oldest boy, (17) who I finally dragged out to a SASS shoot, is pretty happy with them also.   ;)

Sooo...long story short, I need another pair of revolvers, and I'm looking at some options on this pair of Vaqueros.

I swap back and forth between gunfighter and traditional depending on how bad I want to win (or more accurately, place well) and how many stages have "split" revolver strings, and I've liked the one example of a Ruger with a SBH hammer that I've held.  Never had a chance to shoot one like that at all, let alone enough, but I think I'm leaning towards SBH hammers.

Anybody regret going with SBH hammers or with the new SASS Rugers with Montado hammers for shooting traditional?

Another thing, however, is that once in every other match or so, I'll get rolling and miss a cylinder from the hammer slipping, costing me a second or two to go back around and get it.

Is the Powers Custom half cock hammer/trigger setup worth it for this reason? any other?

I know the two may be mutually exclusive, although I heard Powers Custom was making a SBH profile half cock hammer some time back, but still don't see it on their site.

Just trying to sort this out before I pull the trigger on this next pair of .45s.

Howdy,
I've installed the SBH hammers on all my NMV's and couldn't be more pleased. I like the wider/lower hammer since I don't have large hands. For the first 8 years of shooting CAS my hand would move up on the grip sometimes, but with the SBH the last 4 years, no problem. YMMV.
I really don't have any experience with the half-cock, but the folks I know who have them are happy with them.

Happy New Year!

Where can I find SBH hammers for my new Vaqueros?

I've no gunsmith in France selling this type of spae parts (9 months to receive my last pair of Vaqueros I ordered to my local Smith - great shop in France - and the price!!! $2200 the pair unmatched 3 number between them)!

Brownells don't sell in foreign countries and last time I visited the site the hammers were back orders!
Successful me! No I begin!

Brownells does export, or at least did...I used to work there.  :-)

Direct from ruger is another option.  If they won't export small orders, they will probably be able to point you in the right direction to someone who does.
