Since there is no '66 forum, I'll ask here.  Looking for some background on Uberti made 1866 carbines in .22 LR.  Just purchased one off of Gunbroker.  20 inch barrel, brass barrel band and front sight band, flip up adjustable ladder rear sight, no saddle ring no lever latch; but does have a lever safety.  How rare an animal is this?

While not exactly grapefruit, not real rare either.  Uberti gets a wild hair every now and then and does a "run" of 22s.  Sometimes rifles, sometimes carbines.  If I had one, I'd hang on to it and shoot about a brick a week thru it.

Oh, I plan to use it a lot.

I picked one up several years back for $300. Seemed a bit high until I saw the going rates at auction on Gun Broker. Mine is a early run, #62xx, and has the saddle ring. The sliding dust cover on the magazine tube is an interesting detail to the more or less typical .22 tubular magazine. Hardly a race gun like other '66's, as mine needs slow deliberate lever operation to keep chamber feeding/fouling to a minimum. Otherwise a fine companion piece to the P Jr. Stallion when shooting Senior Buckaroo Category.

;D And if ya would take the forearm off you would have a Hollywood acceptable 22 lr Henry....  ::)
Aye its been quite a ride aint it?

Ah Gus,
That's called "Hollywierd."  ;D

I have one that is identical that I bought in 1968. I think I paid $115 for it.

Here's mine.  This one has the saddle ring.  This is the third one I have had, and each one has had problems with the ejector breaking.  Be aware that there are at least two different ejectors for these puppies!  The carbine is a real shooter, and probably the most accurate 22lr I have ever had.

Thanks for the info Grizz.  Looks like yours has a lever latch; but, no lever safety.  What year is yours?

Well, I think it is marked "BL", which would be 1998 according to a list of codes I found.

I know this is the wrong forum for this question, but as long as the subject has been raised.........How unusual of a critter is a Navy Arms 1873 version of the .22? Local shop has one, he has a price of $600 which seems to be on the high side. Still, it is cool piece.

They are rather rare.  I've only seen two or three in the last ten years.  If you don't buy it. give me their phone number,  I'll pay $600 with a big smile.  2011 Blue Book give a $700 value for one in 95%.  I'm sure current prices are higher.  Also says they were discontinued in 1991.

Blue book says the .22 cal 1866 was discontinued in 1989.

And I'm still looking for information on these.

Picked mine up from LGS and rand a few rounds through it.  At 15 yds off hand seemed pretty good.  We'll take it out & put it on paper as soon as the weather lets up some.  Its supposed to snow 6-9 inches here tonight

Checked the date code - XXII, made in 1966 !  and looks like it sat in someone's safe since then.  not a mark on it anywhwere.

seems we both should have moved further south

Fingers McGee

Aint that the truth.  Only problem is it's been almost as bad in the south as far down as Florida.

Hoof Hearted

Nice find Fingers, I'd've bought it too!

Kinda funny though seeing as this is one of those "early" rifles that all the other guys are warning against buying (in other threads) due to parts availability ::)

I agree Fingers!
Might think about inspecting the ejector and extractor, should be the most prone to wear parts...........I guess you could always fix, file, heat treat ;)

I own a real early (64 I think) 66 and I like it! Not gonna be a racegun but maybe some day one of my heirs will make a few bucks on it :o
