Howdy pards.
I've just bought a Remington 1858 and have been looking for a holster model for it.
In Packing Iron page 79 I found what I was looking for, so I grabbed the pen for the first time in years and drawed a pattern.
Have just dyed it so there will be more photos tomorrow

Very nice holster Bob.  The original Main & Winchester Slim Jim holster pictured on page 79, is one of many items in Packing Iron that are in my collection.  I've owned that holster for over 30 years and it has always been one of my favorites.  The saddle shop receipt and color business card shown in that photo with the holster, are also original M & W items.

Extremely nice Bob, like others, really looking forward to the finished work.

Bob,
When you look at the photo in Packing Iron, that's pretty much all there is.  The belt loop on the back is very simple.  1 1/4" wide, cut straight on top where it is folded over and sewn to the holster body and the bottom of the loop is cut round and sewn up just far enough to make an opening for a 2" belt.  Just so you know, it does not have a muzzle plug and never did.  I have several carved Main & Winchester Slim Jims and none of them were ever fitted with muzzle plugs.  Out of 20 to 25 Slim Jims in my collection, about half of them have plugs.  The rest are either open or cut round and sewn shut.  All of my E. L. Gallatin Slim Jims have plugs.

Beautiful, Henrik. I like that tooling design a lot. It'll be fun to see it finished.

Here it is.
I made it with a toe plug and in crossdraw. Now I have to find a belt model for it. I really want to find a better more autentic border tool.
Hope you like it

Great work, Henrik.
What dye did you use? Did you dip-dye it?

Boothill Bob

Thanx skeeter.
I used Fiebings walnut oil dye and a cotton swab, then oil and Tan-kote. Wich I could get my hands on black walnut hulls

Henrik just as I thought looking at the first picture ... turned out amazing.

Very nice Henrick. I can't seem to get my Fiebings Walnut to come out looking that nice and that rich of color.

Another question, Henrik -

How much did you dilute the dye?
