Thinking about a 66 in .44 WCF (I'd buy one in .44 Colt if they made 'em) and was wondering what land and groove diameters typically run with recent production guns.  Just trying to think through the bullet mold issue so I can hit the ground running when I pull the trigger, so to speak. I would of course be running nothing but black powder.

I have a 66 and a Burgess, both have .429 grooves. I had an 80's production model 73 that had .426 grooves. I believe all of the recent Uberti's have .429 diameter.

Slug the barrel first. I have seen them go as high as 0.432". I have an Uberti Henry & '66 that both slug at 0.430". Every rifle is a world unto itself.   ;)

I have a 44-40 Uberti 1873 that was made sometime in the 1980s. Groove diameter is .427. I have a 44-40 Uberti 1860 Henry that was made just a few years ago, groove diameter is .429.  That jives with what I have heard about most recent Uberti 44-40s. As always, the best advice is to slug the barrel to determine the actual groove diameter. It is not very hard to do.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

Well, they do make them in .44 Colt, sorta.  They are made in .44 Spcl.  Some of those will run the .44 Colt fine out of the box.  Some need some tweaking to run .44 Colt due to the smaller diameter rim (mostly the extractor).  And you can run .44 Russian in them if you put in one of the aftermarket carriers with the spring-loaded cartridge stop in it.
