JohnsonBarr, I really appreciate it! I did some research and found what I believe is my GG grandmother's resting place -- Shiloh Cemetery in southern Comanche County -- but very few markers were legible.

Hi Bill, I checked with Richard Matsler and it turns out his GGG, David Matsler settled on Cherokee Creek near the future site of Chappel on November 7, 1854. I'll be sure to see if anything in the Matsler Family history would be helpful when I visit. One other thing I hit on was for Champion Travis Traylor (Jr.?) being the first appointed postmaster for Guion, TX in 1884. Try this link: www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/hng39

Johnson, thanks again Pard! My great grandfather and great grandmother were married in Buffalo Gap on Sept. 25, 1880, so that had to be him as the PM in Guion, just down the road a bit. Had not known of this. By the way, GGF's father was murdered Aug. 10 1855 -- I was a year off -- and GGF was born in Burnett the following Dec. 24.
For all the rest of you folks, sorry to bore you with family info.

P.S. And no, I have not forgotten the original purpose of this thread; just feeling sorry that Texas is such a "fur piece" from here.

All this should be interesting enough to the membership to keep it up.  if not we need to move to the Historical Society thread.

Bill, this is the NCOWS board most all of us are interested in history.  I am enjoying the dialog. ;D

Hi,

I am enjoying it too, but I wish there was an NCOWS near Sacramento/Sackatomatoes ...

TTFN,
My moniker is my great grandfather's name. He served with the 2nd Florida Mounted Regiment in the Civil War. Afterward, he came home, packed his wife into a wagon, and was one of the first NorteAmericanos on the Frio River southwest of San Antonio ..... Kinda where present day Dilley is ...
