As noted below I went out with my Burnside Spencer today to function test the action after having fitted a S&S upper
CF block. Shot well with some TenX 56-50 Black powder loads that I lucked out on at a decent price. It is cut down
50-70 brass and worked well in my Spencer except it would not feed if more than 4 rounds were loaded into the tube.
Any more than that and the cartridges would not feed at all.
Any thoughs on what to look for ? When I was installing new CF follower I thought the spring was very weak but
decided to wait and see how it functioned with the original spring before installing a replacement.

Bottom line though is that it was a lot of fun to shoot and very satisfying to hear this carbine roar again!

Can you be more specific about the feeding problem with more than 4 rounds? What is happening? If cartridges are getting hung up at the breechblock, I would suspect that you need to fine tune the overall cartridge length.  When the upper block comes up it has to separate the cartridges.  It may work ok with 4 or less, but the increased spring tension with more rounds could be making it too hard for the block to separate the rounds.

As I recall the nose of the fore most bullet was well back. This was my 1st time shooting with a Spencer so
did not know what to look for. I will have to go out again when I get a chance and be more observant as
to the postion of the bullets when it is refusing to feed. I am shooting the TenX loaded ammo and the
overall length is 1.56/1.57.

My spencer does not like the 10x rounds.  They are too short.  I can only shoot one in the chamber and one in the magazine reliably.  I need to start reloading and play with length.
