Give Ken at Rock Creek Armory a call.  He doesn't have that particular mold but I'm pretty sure he would be willing to work something out with you; I know other people have sent him a specific mold in the past and he has cast for them.

to 44 wcf and others. It was suggested to me, with my dilemma of trying to find a purveyor of 427098's, that I may try Western Bullet Co in Missoula Montana. I emailed them and have called them several times with no response and no one answering the phone. I googled them and came up with a bad review from the Better Business Bureau. Seems they have taken orders and not delivered product and not answered emails or phone calls from those who had placed orders, nor had they responded to the BBB complaint.

I wouldn't recommend anyone using these folks.

Sorry to hear about the bad review of Western Bullet. Bummer  :(

There is one other possibility I found ....

Go to "cast bullets" and scroll down to 5-E. That looks like the 427098.

I have not done any business with them (nor Western) so I don't know what kind of outfit they are.

I use Springfield Slim's  Big Lube 44s in44-40 with great results in my BP loads. I'm curious as to why you guys don't  seem to like them.

Don't think its a matter of not liking them, I think its more of a historical accuracy thing.

I've heard said by those that shoot beyond 100 yards that the Mav .44 bullet is not as accurate as the original design. Speculation was that the large lube groove causes turbulence and instability at the longer distances. I like the Mav bullet for short distances.

Thanks for the info. I've never shot it but for CAS matchs at under 50 yards.

Thanks for the input also, Tyrel.

Springfield Slim has now acquired the Accurate 43-210B(427098) mould and can make the 427098 round.  This mould was created by Accurate, in cahoots with Fairshake and is a modification of the original 427098 round to allow more lube.

As stated above, I have no problems with the Springfield Slim Big Lube but I just want to shoot the round as used when our guns were new...in the 1870's 1880's.

Hope this helps.

I have been having trouble finding anyone that markets the 427098 for BP use.....

I ran into the same problem looking for that bullet in .429 or .430 for my Uberti 1873. This is where I was forcibly pushed into the world of bullet casting. I got an Accurate Mold's design that mimics the Lyman 427098 but with a crimp groove. I have been reloading for years.....an enjoyable hobby unto it self. Casting bullets however is WORK.! At least that is how I feel about it. However, with the guidance of 44WCF, Swiss 2F powder, CCI#300 primers and my home made bullets, I found the most accurate load of any type that rifle has ever seen.
I know this is not what you want to hear. This is just where the same problem took me. Now, I am a bullet caster and Soot Lord.

David, I solved my problem by purchasing a mould as mentioned in my post above for Springfield Slim and he is now casting the 427098 for me.

My problem now is that Montana Bullet Works is out of business and I was getting my 500 grn saeco 1881 bullets for my 1884 trapdoor from him so I am in the same position I was in before with the 427098. .

Again, Buffalo Arms offers that bullet, and I have had an order in with them for a couple of months but they don't have any in stock. For the life of me i don't know why Buffalo Arms even offers bullets that they can't provide.
