My wife got away from shooting her ivory stocked Ruger Flat Top .44's as she didn't care for my .44 Spl. loads, even after I reduced the load to 5.4 grs of Red Dot under a 200 gr RNFP.

While we were at the range recently, I had my .44 Russian with me and I asked to try some of those loads in her Blackhawks - Bingo!
All of a sudden she's shooting groups of 1" at 12 yds! We've found her load - 3.7 grs Bullseye under a 200 gr RNFP. In a recent article, MLV says 3.7 of Tite Group is good as well. We'll try it.

She's ready to move on from her Uberti Stallion .38's. Nice little guns with their 3/4 size frames, but .....

I would say don't worry about it.  Some shooters - predominantly women - find recoil of a handgun adversely affects their shooting.  The .44 Russian in a .44 Special is a great idea.

This made me recall an article a fellow penned years ago regarding choosing a self defense pistola for his missus.  Forgetting who it was, but he is a prolific writer.  At first insisting she carry nothing less than a compact 9mm.  Subsequent trips to the range revealed that "a refrigerator size target has nothing to fear at 15 yards."  The lesson completed itself when a similar size .380 ACP was introduced  and the lady in question proved immediately proficient.  I fail to remember the quote describing the increase in accuracy, but it equally amusing.

Just don't be hasty to throw around the term "gamer" to somebody willing to use a .44 anything.  ;D  I've noticed gamers don't generally move past .38 special.

I might add, or end with MAG!
Just a thought? ;)

I own three .44 mag pistols and I rarely shoot magnum loads. If I could carry legally, my loads would be .44 Spl. or .45 ACP.

Guns in calibres I own that start with '4' number 18 handguns and 9 rifles. I think that indicates a preference .....
