There's a picture of Owens on this page: the sun-tan marks on the bucket are there all right. (Sorry about the lingo.)

Skeeter-  if you hit the translate key it states:

The origin of Buscadero    Thurs November 8th - 9:02 p.m.
No later than this afternoon after I saw on another forum a craftsman
french holster (not the forum) as Captain John hughes of
C Company of the Texas Rangers was the precursor / initiator buscaderos.
by presenting well on the inevitable picture of Commodore Perry Owens
citing as source the Museum of Waco Texas Rangers!

I share the same thoughts as Cliff, this is a posed photo opt,
the holster & pistol posed in this way as the holster would not slip over the belt.

when planets align...do the deal !

Major, he's saying that some folks over there confuse Perry Owens and John Hughes.
It's a great forum, by the way, with some very knowledgeable pards.

Where's the translate key on that page/forum? I'd like to snoop around some.

This is a much better pic than the one I posted but it is the same holster. I saw another holster on "The High Chapperal". It was a Mexican loop with 1 loop around the holster but, then the last 3" at the toe, leather had been sewn to make a closed pocket that was sewn to the back skirt. Then the toe of the holster was stuck down into this pocket. Didn't get a pic of this one but will be on the lookout for it again. Then there is one vaquero that is a cowboy there on the ranch that always wears a pair of "Botas".
Swinging a rope is alot of fun unless, your neck is in the loop.
